The only 'successor' they've tried to bring out was the Lexus IS200 (Altezza) that was supposed to be the modern day 'hachi roku'.....hahaha doesn't even come close..
But with production costs and efficency, there won't be another car of this degree in terms of geometry and layout.

credit for a cartoon! - does this mean trans am can hold credit for inspiring "knight rider "
or the ford edsel for inspiring harry potter !!
As for ultimate toyota - have we forgotten the GT-one lemans racer/road car - or the toyota 3000GT from the sixties here ?
sorry, but comparing a small people mover/econobox to these cars just makes me crack up !

Yes that one is yuk and probably way to heavy for a sub 2 litre engine the only thing going for it is FR configuation and hopefully a low price.
Now if THIS was the new ae86 i would be bloody buying one it looks sweet.

Well I heard that some people in Japan refer to the Toyota Altezza RS200 (not is200) as the hachi roku 2000.

Hmmm ... That avatar pic came off a NZ site. Believe that the AE86 in that pic is running a formula atlantic 16V engine. Have the link at home but too lazy to get it.

having looked at that ae86 concept - i decided to get the pens out - and try to envisage what a 2005 Ra28 would look like
Figured out it would be alot like the upcoming 2005 mustang - seeing the original took mustang cues - and the 2005 stang looks horny
couple that style of body with a worked 3sgte rear wheel drive platform ( seeing celicas were 4 cyl and still are ) and youd have the " ultimate " retro celica comeback
ill finish off the sketch and see what people think - Im not the greatest arstist - but i can do a reasonable side on view of what im thinking of
so far it looks like the basic 2005 mustang fastback /ra28 bodyshell , though now with moulded bumpers and skirtings , ra28 style front ringed lights recessed a little in the moulded front bumper AKA BWM or BA falcon , large 17 + inch wheels - the ta22 tyle rear quarter bulge that starts at the rear quarter window glass , the C pillars now have a brake duct for rear disc cooling in favour of RA28 plastic trims or mustang glass , and the tail finishes off with the ra28 signature lip up boot , with moulded rear bumper instead of the chrome items
the 2005 mustang can be seen here :
