Bucket seats Sat, 17 May 2003 04:05 Go to next message
Im after a pair of bucket seats for my sprinter. My price range is about $400 each. Im not to fussed about the seat being fixed or reclinable.

Anyone know where in Sydney to get them from? What brands are available for my price range?

Autotechica Monza seats are good... I got one of them in my car and it's really comfortable, holds you in all the right places Razz and they are only $300 each brand new... You can buy them from and auto store like Autobarn, Repco and Auto One and places like that...

Sorry ... it's a repost again but ...

The Autotecnica ones fit but you will find yourself sitting a bit higher. On my original steering setup, I wasn't able to see the instrument cluster however an upgrade to a Momo steering wheel with 5mm spacer solved that problem. All's well now ... Very Happy

Well I just sent off an email to Autotechica & Velo to get a trade price listing. If they are a decent price maybe a group buy is in order if the interest is there.

What about those double seat belts you see on some of the bucket seats. Where can you get those?

Any legalities aside (ie seats being not certified and racing harnesses not being legal in most cases on public roads without std belt as well) you shouldn't really skimp on price when it comes to safty. Some points to consider.

- Racing harnesses are costly (atleast for good ones)
- Racing harnesses have a limited life (i think 3 years) when actually used at cams/fia events, ie they have an expiry date (due to UV damage of material i believe)
- You need somewhere to attach a harness (paying special attention to angles etc) so many people i see attach them low in the rear, real no no !
- Last time i checked in autobarn a lot of the seats appeared not to have the australian standard sticker i think they require, hence for off road use only (could you get defected)
- If you have a 2 door car and rear seats fixed buckets means the rear seats should be removed an the car rego'ed as 2 seater

btw i have for sale if anybody is keen ($$$) 2 by bride carbon/kevlar racing buckets. Havn't thought of a price but there expensive, would consider swap for say 2 x new recaro SR seats (geniun). Dont quote me but i think you will fund those bride racing seats are 3000-4000 each ! (due to being carbon kevlar and not just frp material).

I looked around with this sort of budget in mind. I tried the Monza ones, but couldn't get comfortable on any of their range and they didnt look that well made.

I ended up buying some OBX Carrera seats, black with red inserts, with leather patches on the spots that are prone to wear, fully reclinable, ADR approved, slimline and fit me like a glove Smile

I paid $400 each, and they RRP for $450 each. Each to their own I suppose.

Yes ... OBX seats would have been the other range for me to consider apart from Sparco ... however I got my Autotecnica ones off from a fellow Toymodder for a cheaper price so I can't complain - ADR complied as well so no probs.

Also, putting in a race harness will mean you lose the use of your back seats.

Yes ... Bride are expensive but I wouldn't pay that much for a seat (& not many other ppl for that matter) unless I wanted the name or was using it for race purposes - even than, you'd find that a Sparco Sprint seat will probably be just as good a seat and the cheapest 'quality' one you'd find at around $450 for one. With a potential saving of more than a grand over a Bride $3-4k seat, all that extra money could then go into fitting the seats & the compliance cost.

The Cobra Trophy is another seat to consider at around $399 but it's similar to the Autotecnica in that it's not too form hugging but still comfortable for the road.

Sat in a Sparco Sprint seat once and would have bought it but the Autotecnica seats came up and for the same price, I'd end up with two seats rather than one. Smile
