well.... rain and wet roads brings out the best drivers. This is the result of a red p plater "not noticing" my car being stationary in front of his. and might i add - NOT HAPPY!
this happened friday nite, around 7:10pm
All thigs are sorted, he is insured, i have ALL the details, i have been medically checked for neck injuries (sore neck and headaches), and ill be getting quotes on tuesday. I think it's safe to say that they will pay up
RA28 Rear, not happy

the celica will live on... i hope
i dont think chassis is too bad. But all the metal around the centre of the tailight section has been pushed in, flattened and pushed up - hence the position of the hatch.
there is also a crease or two in the left quater, and my exhaust rattles on something. My amps *look* busted also. Bumper is warped rather well.... havent looked much more

amplifiers would only be worth $500 - but to me that is a lot of money, remember that i am a full time uni student.
The car that hit me was a stockish N14 pulsar. 18 yr old kid driver. Obviously he felt too seek and had to make sure people were looking at him driving (and consequently not seeing my "glow in the dark" car)
Yes its repairable. But its annoying, and at a bad time. I have so much uni work happening and end of semester is soon.
Yep hatch stuck open. If you look closely you can see the ridge between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the tailights is warped - this gives you an idea of how much things have moved around. lots of man hours there.
But we shall find out exactly what on tuesday

News currently is:
- quote was done on tuesday, with a value of $3254.79 worth of parts and repair work involved.
The rear chassis rails have been slighly bent around to the left and there is sufficient evidence of that when we looked closely. The rear beaver panel (flat piece on middle of rear of car) needs to be cut out and replaced (which i might have to sell to repairer from my old car).
The other driver has put in their claim already, so i have notified GIO (his insurer) that i will be claiming off that, and i have to take the quote (when finalised) down to their assesment place in seven hills and get it ticked for go ahead.
All the while im currently trying to complete at least 3 uni assignments!

whats the rule with that
if someone else hits your car.....can the other persons insurance allowed to call it a write-off ???/ and if they do they surely have NO right to take your car right ?

I'm pretty sure if their company writes off your car, you get salvage rights (but I'm not 100%)
what that would mean is they'd be less likely to write off your car, as they couldn't sell the wreck to recover some of their costs

trust me there is NO WAY i will be letting them write off the car unless i get salvage rights for less than $200 and i make enough profit on it to pay for my repairs and THEN SOME. To clarify, i would value the car at a minimum of $4000 (just for parts alone)
What i have paid for the car:
$1800 - purchase mechanically rooted RA28 (this is the car)
$500 - supply and fit 18R-GU motor
$400 - interior work done (inc seats)
$1000+ - stereo equipment
$600 - Simmons wheels and rubber
$700 - Koni red shocks and low springs and whiteline swaybars
There's more i assure you!
I do realise that the above prices may be a bit far fetched, but nonetheless thats what they are worth to me, and would be the minimum required to replace them.
The car being MY POSESSION i will not allow any prick with a clipboard for a p*nis try to write it off as being worth "nothing".

unfortunately they don't go on the value of the car like that, they just find out what the average price that type of car fetches at the auctions and thats what they give you. I'm afraid they will almost certainly put it down as an economic write off before they pay out over $3k, they're real bastards like that.
there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to buy the wreck back and it should only cost you $250-$350 depite the contents.
thats how it was for my car but if you're lucky you will get a better deal.

Just to clarify a few things for you...
As you are claiming as the "Third Party" in the claim - the other persons insurance company can not claim your vehicle as a total loss and keep the wreck. The way they will do it is as follows..
a - assess the damge - ensure the quote is fair and reasonable and that the damage to your car is consistant with the damge on the other car (ie, you are not trying to claim old repairs that are rusty or hit a pole etc)
b - work out the PAV (Prior Accident Value) of the vehicle
c - determine if the cost of repairs exceeds the PAV, if so, they pay you out the PAV less the salvage value of the car, if the cost of repairs is less than the PAV by a certain percentage - normally within 75-85%, then they pay you out the F&R (Fair and Reasonable) amount for the repairs...
so what this means is as follows..
- firstly you need to make your car look as clean and tidy, polished and vacuumed as possible - you need to make your car look at the very best it has ever looked - (except for the damage of course) - this will assist in getting your PAV to be as high as possible, so they do not prematurley write your car off. - things like - one owner, low kilometres, full service history, excellent condition etc all help in doing this.
- secondly, when the assessor F&R's your car (assuming it's not a total loss)- chances are you will not get the full amount that the repairer quoted - but, it is the assessors responsibility to ensure that what ever value they pay you, the vehicle repairer must agree to repair it for that amount.
if you have any more questions - don't hesitate to ask.. or ICQ me on 54694904
Now get out there and make the car look as perfect as possible, inside and out..

I was under the impression that they were obliged to repair your car, but I guess that must be within reason.

Yep.. its true.
The Celica with a bent bum has taken a trip out to Windsor Automotive Bodyworks, where Adam is taking good care of it.. reading it stories at bedtime, giving it the octane it requires every few hours.....
yeah repairs have begun. Although a snag has been hit with the "beaver panel" - this is the flat section across the back of the car which has been royally screwed on my car. Sourcing one has proven to be near impossible, the only solution currently visible is for me to get the old blue/green RA28 rolling so that Adam can take it out to Windsor and cut the beaver panel out of it, fix it up and chuck it into the yellow RA28. The taillight and mid section of the taillights are also being supplied by me. (of course the repairer charges the insurance company for them and then pays me)
Hopefully it will all be fixed by next friday!
