Hey All,

I don't know if this thread has been done to death but is it easy and what is required when bolting a 7M-G(T)E into it and do i require an Engineering Certif if I just go the 7M-GE.

Is it hard to do the change over and what parts of the loom do i need to retain.

I haven't done a conversion and wondering how hard is it to do?

Also I forgot to add. How does the insurance company react to the changing to a more modern and powerful motor?

Cheers.

engine wiring loom must be changed, ecu must be changed

insurance company wont blink for 7mge, but will go berserk for the turbo motor (will do it, but will cost you)

its a fair amount of work, and not much more to go 1jz, i'd suggest that

needed:

front sump
front oilpump pickup
original 'front' mount engine mounts off the 5m in the car
ecu and loom
7m fuel pump resitor and relay (5m uses the afm to do this)

it all bolts in with zero required modification

and theres only 2 (maybe 3?) small loom plugs which need to be mated to the body loom.

7mge has a cpacity increase under 15% over the 2.8L 5m, but power is over the 15% increase required by the rta for engineering purposes. its also JUST over a 15% increase over the 5mge (what a pain) - but if you convince the lowly rta types that our cars came fitted with a 6m, say, in japan (200hp) you MIGHT get awat with not engineering it...

i, rather biased-ly, think the 7mge is a great motor, and think that the swap is well worth it if you like the thoughts of playing with a hi-per na powerplant...

cheers
ed

I am thinking of getting a cheap project car to mess around it and use it as a run around car and trade up the old SA63.

Don't know yet... Just accessing what is good to do at the moment yet do it with in a tight budget.
