How much oil to fill a 1JZ Soarer? Sun, 18 May 2003 10:39 Go to next message
I finally did my 1st oil change today on my car (after being stuffed around by Autopro and filters) and I wasn't sure how much oil I needed so I measured how much came out and put a little more than that back in as I replaced the filter. It still is low on the dipstick so I ended up putting in the full 5L and it's still low.

How much do they take??

Thanks

Steve

Soarer 1JZ-GTE will take 5 litres on the dot when replacing the filter at the same time.

Not sure why yours wants more. Did you remember to put the sump plug back in Wink

By the way, a genuine filter from Toyota can be had for around $20. Just ask for a 1996 Toyota Vienta oil filter. They are identical.

I put the whole 5L in and then checked it and it was down heaps but thought I'll just drive for a bit. I didn't add anymore in and I guess it just settled and now it's over full!!

It's about 3-4mm above "full" now. Should this be ok as I put in 5L with a new filter?

I didn't get a genuine Toyota filter...I got a Ryco one for a 96 Camry V6...should be the same shouldn't it?

And then I read on Planet Soarer that the oil I put in is no good for a TT Soarer....Castrol Magnatec. Do I need full synthetic??

Geez I hate idiots at Autobarn etc. They have no idea. I said I wanted a really good oil for a Turbo car....they asked what type and they recomended some $8 oil for "older engines" like a Holden 202 because they thought it was old. Idiots. Then I asked for a 1996 V6 Vienta oil filter (after one of you guys told me to get it) and they said "no it won't be that...it will be the oil filter for a 4 cylinder Camry because yours is only a 2.5 litre". Evil or Very Mad

It wouldn't be as much of a problem but I live 150k's from the nearest anything and it was a pain in the neck having to drive another 300k's + what I did in the 2 weeks waiting for a chance to get over to town when I needed an oil change and lost some of the oil when I took the filter off the 1st time only to find out that it was the wrong one.

Never again am I going back there and I am going to listen to you guys.

Oh and one more thing...i'll ask now and save making another thread...are the wheels on your car Soarer 18 inch??

Can I just "put" 18" wheels on without having to roll the guards or do any work to plastic (they look close now with 16") if I keep it at standard height?

I badly need new tyres and don't like the mags on it now (300ZX) and am keen for 18" but wondering if I can

3/4mm above the full mark shouldn't cause any harm.

Yes, any brand filter designed for the 1996 Camry/Vienta V6 will suit the Soarer.

Not sure about Magnatec. I've been using Mobil 1 since I bought the car, and haven't had any problems. Peter Scott from PlanetSoarer knows his stuff, so I would trust what he's written on the site.

Yup, 18"x8" wheels on my car. My Soarer is lowered a few inches, and my 18's fit on without any modification whatsoever. The Soarer is very accomodating for large wheels. I just put them on and have never had a problem with them.

Great...now got to wait for the long weekend to go to either Melbourne or Sydney. What are some good places to go for good deals?

I am keen on BSA 214 wheels...they look very stylish. I have the 300ZX ones on the front at the moment and standard Soarer on the rear (running out of tyres and down to the Japanese tyres now...illegal I know Sad but the next set are snow tyres and got to get new ones before I have to put them on) and I do really like the standard rims so maybe something simillar to them but in 18" might look good.

I'm not sure about polished chrome...too dusty out here and will last about 2.4 seconds before they are scratched.

Got any ideas on styles that look good on white Soarers?
