I'm soon gonna be the owner of a scmick amplifier, and after i get it, i'll *need* to buy some 6.5" splits for the front of the car.
Any suggestions? Budget $100 - 150 but the cheaper the better

I've been meaning to ask a simlar question - how do you compare Jaycar speakers with other 'brand names'?
Wondering how the 6.5" coaxs with the adjustable tweets or the splits compare to similar Alpine stuff. There used to be a cheap range of splits and an expensive range last year, now there just seems to be a cheap range in a different colour going by the website

you really wont get anything descent for that kind of money in splits, alpine, rockford fosgate etc splits cost from about $299 for a reason i would not waist my money try and get a second hand set of alpine spr-175a splits they are the best around for the money most alpine stores are running out last years stock now you can probably get them at a good price $150 splits sound like $150 dollar splits. save your money a little longer you will be blown away by how much better good splits sound. seriously go into one of the alpine stores and have a listen to them you will be glad you did.

Actually, there were some secondhand SPR175a splits on ebay not long ago, but they went well over $200 which was too much for me to pay on another set of speakers.
I have the Alpine summer catalog here... SPR175a rrp= $369, but they are on sale for $300. SCS-1756 are rrp 289 and are on special at $199. I assume this is because they are going to be superceeded.
I have a pair of DDDrive R17g coaxs i got secondhand for ~$150 which sound absolutely fantastic. Only prob is, they don't have a second spider between the tweeter tower and the woofer like some coaxs do, and i had them sitting in the garage without grills on and I think I managed to get a few metal filings down the hole on one of them it buzzes now on low notes and I can't suck it out

if your budget is $150 or so
get some AXIS splits (chrome ones) (i think they are $160)
dont listen to what other ppl say about them, coz they hammer.
otherwise go for the pioneer powerblade splits ($399)
there is really nothing between those two prices that is really decent

Im with THE WITZL. The Jaycar kevlar splits are great. I have a pair and very pleased with them. Very crisp highs and a nice smooth midrange. for $200 you cant go wrong

im getting Focal 6.5 splits for my Gt4 - though i had a set of phillips 5.5 splits in the ta22 and they were a pretty good speaker ! bought them second hand for 120 dollars at the time ( 3 years ago ) out of a friends car - he replaced them with a set of MB Quartz setups which are just plain audio bliss ..
Keep an eye on the trady - theres usually a set or two hanging about - hopefully they havent been burnt out, if not - save save save - and buy a really good set and enjoy them a lot more !

unfortunatly the 1756 has been discontinued for 2003 they were excellent and totaly outsold anything in their price range as do the 175a's.
we are currently selling the 175a's at $249.00 last years rrp was $369 and they were so much better than anything in that price range, we couldnt sell anything else without feeling guilty about not giving our customers the best. that included the pioneer bullets at about $469 they just didnt stack up, in comparison.
