can i just say.. that personally i think this is a crock of shit!!!! OK.. I GOT MY RED p's in feb 2002.. i got my green p's in feb 2003... 6 points whoo hoo epsecially seeing as I was pulled over last year and an ingfringment issued but i never recieved a reminder. The cop had written the wrong address on the fine. I'm not sure if that makes it void or whether the address for infringments are manually entered from data collected by the cop at the time or from the database of my rta record. is it possible that even thought the address he wrote down was nearly 3 years old that the police could still be sending reminder notices to that address. My rta address is always up to date btw. Seeing as I have heard nothing and the RTA have no record of it does that mean the fine was retracted ?? The cops were arguing amongst themsleves about the validity of the fine as they were writing it - one thought i deserved it and one did not - they actually let me se them argue the point !!! it was for 125 on the f3 outside wyong, at 1.30 am on a sunday morning !! I wasnt speeding !!! just cruising i was stoped for more than 1/2 and hour and not one other car went past going south. I was very pissed off at the time, but perhaps they succeeded in giving me a scare and let me off. lets hope - nice little piggies. Matt [Report message to a moderator]

I was shitting myself, only 2 points, then I figured out that I had followed the sample button. Still go 6 I figured this out after following the vehicle details list and they told me that my car was written off. I started to panic, not my baby, then I realised that they were trying to predict the future, me losing more points and writing off the car. Maybe I should settle down, Naahhhh what would they know. Does anybody know how long demerit points last for? Is it until you get all 12 accumulated, then a suspension? It seems stupid to have points accumulate years after you have committed an offence? [Report message to a moderator]

I kinda know how you feel max. A friend of mine lost her L's for doing 69 in a 50 zone near my house. this "50" zone is a street about 500m long (almost enough for a 1/4 mile and slow down ) and wide enough to park 6 cars side by side along it (that isn't exaggerating either) edit: I dont know how I haven't been booked more than that for speeding. Loss of demerit points lasts for 3 years. So whatever you lose in a specific offence, 3 years later, you'll get those points back. If I lost 3 points today, I'd get those 3 points back on 20/05/06. [Updated on: Tue, 20 May 2003 07:26] [Report message to a moderator]

This is a great tool!! Matt (Yojimbo): The police and RTA are two seperate entities. Your points don't come off your RTA licence until it gets sent from the Police to the RTA. Therefore if you dispute a fine, then you'll still won't have lost the points until you lose the case. In your case the fine is still at the Police department and not the RTA ... yet. So Pete what do you recomend ? How can I find out if it was dropped? I have never recieved a reminder or any thing else and my address is current has been but for all of a week when i moved house. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they send the demerit points to the state of issue of your liscence. Too bad WA or QLD dont have somthing like this (got licences in both states ) Wouldnt mind seeing my overly clean record.
