I'd pick the 1ggte - slightly more power I believe, and easier to get more power out of - and you are going to need it in an EH wagon..
Have you thought about the 1J? - more expensive, but 500 extra cc's to play with and a more power ..

how much does the EH weigh?, the torque of a 1JZ-GTE or 7M-GTE would suit the car much better than a 1G

I am told there is an HR running around with a 1G-GTE in it, I am told it runs really well. It is used as a tow car for a tarted up torana.
The old EH is probably a similar weight to a GA70 supra anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if it was lighter.
The original EH only had a single carby fed 2.5L motor in it anyway. The 1G will be a huge improvement in both torque and power.

An EH weighs about the same as an RA28 and probably lighter after the transplant. Sounds like a great swap to me.

EH's are a great classic cruiser, lightweight, and built like a paperclip... A 1G would probably be a good choice though, turbo being the easiest to find more power in, although the supercharged motors can sometimes be had even cheaper than the turbo ones, and it does occasionally confuse people.
And PLEASE do something with the EH brakes, steering and suspension. Please! HR 'balljoint' front end is the easy option, although it's hardly gonna set dynamic records unless played with further...

if you're going to the trouble of a conversion, I'd be tempted by the 7m or the 1j... the half-cut will only cost you a bit more (in the grand scheme of engine conversion costs) and will give you uber power.
but if you dont think you'll be wanting that sort of monstrous power, the 1g is a cheaper option

I think the 1G supra box is different to the M series supras. Not sure if the bell housing will bolt on.
The 1G would be fine for an EH, but if the 7M or 1J bolts in ok, why not. Best to check with the local authorities as to what engine capacity you can get away with for that weight.

1132KG * 2.5 = 2830cc
so, you could go 1jz but not 7m. If the budget permits, i would go 1jz. It is a little longer though so better check dimensions.

7M DOES FIT AS I SAID, AND IT IS ENGINEERED
the car also has a mitsubishi L300 front end, power steering & a vl commonhore disc brake rear end.
at 15psi the car runs ok, but a 1j or 2j would be the go

1.202 Red Motor with 12 Port YellaTerra Head Stage 4 or 5 Cam with triple SUs and dyno tuned.. Power Output between 200 - 300Hp(268 - 402Kw)..Just a little bit more than the Festiva ..

300hp is a bit optimistic, but 400kW is laughable!
A 300hp 202 will be an absolute pig to drive. A 300hp 1G will be much, much nicer to live with, not to mention more reliable and use a fraction of the fuel. But if a 202 is what you want, go ahead!

Just do the 2JZGE thing. 220 hp straight out of the box with plenty of potential, and they are the ugly duckling of the JZ series so they're nice and cheap.
It'd make for an interesting conversion rather than another run of the mill 202.

Ben, can you tell me why you call this young man Muriel? I asked Karl, but he didn't really know the story behind it.
So what happened to the Festiva? Written off in an acco?

my mates dad put one of these into a old 1920's vauxhaul. I'll try and get him to bring it to the dyno day
and it hauls ass.
