As the question above says does anyone know how to do the conversion?

I have 1100 foot pounds of torque from a dyno printout and i'd like to know the formula to convert it into newton metres.

1100 foot-pounds = 1491.4 newton-meters

as it happens, usually you need it unexpectedly. this isn't too bad to remember.

Nm figure is about 1/3 greater than lb/ft.
-to get Nm, you multiply lb/ft by 1,3558
-to get lb/ft, you multiply Nm by (1 / 1,355Cool

thesedays cellphones travel in our pockets, they usually feature a calculator. one may even save conversion rate in phone under some key word.

Thanks heaps guys!!!!!

There must be something wrong on the dyno graph, i have 1100 pounds so by using the formula i must have about 1500 newton metres......he he he sounds like i'm driving a 16 cylinder cummings quad turbo diesel!!!!

I'll check it out when i get dynoed next weekend.

it looks high but youve got to remember that your gearbox and diff are multiplying your engine torque and reducing its output speed. for eg in third(1.5:1 at a guess) and a diff ratio of 4:1 thats an overall reduction of 6:1. So divide 1490 by 6 = 250Nm a lot more realistic figure once you factor in drivetrain loses.
