This may have been covered before althoughi couldn't find anything about it.
I am looking at doing a 20 valve silver top conversion in my sx rolla in the near future. will i need to get an engineers certificate? also being an NA engine that is basically a newer version of what i have already, will this effect my insurance?
cheers

Definitely check with your insurance company. People go around saying that because its the same engine that the insurance co won't care. I don't think this is correct. If you changed engines for a more powerful model and didn't tell them then you have just handed them a great reason not to pay out on your claim - in which case - why have insurance at all.
As for engineer's certificate - I know nothing about the Tas regulations. If you did it up here in NSW then you probably would but I'd guess that it would pass no worries even with standard brakes.
Take it easy,

I asked my insurer (AAMI) regarding a 20V Silver top in an AE82. After speaking to their engineering person, they said not a problem, and no extra to my premium.
Here in SA they said as long as it passes Regencey (the SA MOT place) then they would insure it.
I think the main reason they said yes was it was esentialy the same block, just a later model of the engine that runs on unleaded, they figured it wasnt a performance engine.
Worth asking, you may be presently surprised. If not, then you are at least still covered by the insurance.
