icon8.gif  Sick Of Sydney Drivers!!! Wed, 21 May 2003 07:49 Go to next message
As the title says, I'm sick at the ways that Sydney ppl drive...

On the way home from work today I merged into the left lane behind a car on the Pacific Hwy... I got into the left lane doing 60km/h and the car right infront of me slams the brakes on and decides it wants to hook a lefty into the street thats 5 metres away... No warning, no blinker nothing, and the best part, it was on a bend... So I hit the anchors and locked up and was heading straight for the gutter... I thought "SHIT!!!!!!" and got off the brakes... Hooked the steering wheel to the right and hit the brakes again... Locked up again... At that time the other car had now turned into the street so I got off the brakes... I forgot that I had hooked the steering wheel and so when i got off the brakes the car automatically swerved into the right lane... Lucky there was no one in that lane at the time...

So I stopped at the next servo and checked the tyres and had a little stress relief time... Tyres have little scuff marks on them but not too bad...

I'm just sick of the fact that ppl don't know how to drive and watching the "Worst Driver" series on Channel 7 is really scaring me about driving... How are we supposed to keep our cars in good condition when there are drivers like that on the roads???

Just my 2cents anywayz...

This is partly the reason for me not wanting an old car
I cant relax if i leave my carp parked somewhere cause i have to go source parts from miles away etc etc...and they are rare as in good condition

I agree some drivers suk but Ben u shouldnt have merged into that Lane if there wasnt a safe enough gap to do so....

what if someone jumped out infront of that car and he/she had to slam the brakes on ? in that case he/she would have TOTALLY been in the right and u would have been in the wrong if u were to have an acco

Im not having a go at u but because i drive such an old car i get tailgated all the time and i cant stand it

Peace

Holds out hand hoping ben shakes it*

Nah Mani, it's all cool... *Shakes Mani's hand*...

The car overtook me on the left and was travelling at like 70 or more... So I pulled out behind it and then as soon as I was in teh left lane bang... He hit the brakes and started to hook it into the side street...

I have been down to Canberra numerous times and it didn't seem that bad to me... Whether it was the time or the day, there weren't that many cars and they all seemed to know what they were doing...

"Sydney ain't that bad if you can figure out what the other drivers are doing"... Well thats the problem... If the other drivers don't know what they're doing, how the hell are we supposed to figure it out??? Especially taxis in the city... They have absolutely no idea at all...

melbourne taxi drivers are worse than sydney taxi drivers (hard as that is to believe)
I've had 2 try and have accidents with me (one very nearly succeeded), and I dont even live there!

I dont know about that canberra drivers are pretty bad i think the reason is because the roads are so good so they all fall asleep and become to complacent.
As for canberra taxis well now that i drive the old rolla i can quite happily aim for their doors again when they leave them open. Twisted Evil

Canberra people are 90% public servants, which means they move at about 1/5 of the speed of normal people all the time, no matter what they're doing.
It's very annoying. Especially when some slow arse sits in the right lane and won't move over even after flashing them continually.

Sydney drivers, well, at least they're aware of their environment (compared to other cities). They may not give a fuck, but there's better chance that they know you're there.

Ive been watching that, scary stuff. Makes you wonder how they got their licences???
Now if I worked for the RTA, I would take note of the drivers on that show and see what can be done about getting them off the road.

As for the first part...I believe that most drivers on the roads shouldn't be there, as they little to no idea. I can speak with some "authority" here, as I have driven cars for some 18+ years, Heavy vehicles for some 10 years on and off (including stints in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin), and motorcycles for around 15 years - all accident free. (I was also a driving instructor for a period of time...never again!!! Shocked )

Anyway, I've seen most of it on our roads and now firmly believe that people need to take responsibility for themselves to a large extent. ie. Take the other view that other drivers WILL stuff up, because inevitably, they will...If you're prepared in advance, the "damage" can be largely avoided/mitigated.
This is also known as defensive driving.

Hmmm...As for this one, that would imply that the RTA's preference was for saving injury/lives over raising revenue...

Melbourne Taxi Drivers are shocking. I think they must cause about 90% of the accident's in the CBD and Trams cause the other 10%. Trams always run red lights. I work in Melbourne central so I see it all the time!

But I actually live out in the hills and the amount of knob heads out there who can't drive is astounding. 60 in 80 zones, 80 in 60 zones. Can only drive strait lines so the speed up to a corner then slam on the brakes, think that it's possible to merge at 60km's into 100km traffic, can't understand the concept of a 2 lane round-a-bout, turn into a road and cut across 3 lanes of traffic. I had a good one the other week, 2 lane's into one and I was just in front of another car with blinker on for about 50 metres and tried to over take me at the last second. Then about 2km up e road some dick was stuck in traffic so drove up the wrong side of the road (running me off the road)just to turn into a side street.

I could go on but I'd run out of room, but basically Melbourne has it fair share of drivers who get their licenses out of Rice bubble packets! Mad

some idiot along victoria road kept trying to duck into those lanes that appear for 50m, then end again.
He tried it twice, and the second time had to slam on his brakes and mount the kerb to stop from hitting the guy beside him.

*then* right near my house grandpa in his volvo comes out of a sidestreet. no brakes, doesn't look, just casually drives right into my path.
good test of the stock brakes.
and first use of the supras horn! (I very very rarely use the horn)

Hows this f or a stoopid d**khead. Theres no moral to this, just thought I'd share how dumb some drivers are. Very Happy

On my way to work (commuting from Central Coast to Sydney) about to hop onto the F3 at kariong. before you get on the F3 the two lanes merge to one. I'm cruising along in the right, and as usual all the pricks cruise up the left to push in and cause bottlenecks. Mad

Now, I try not to let them in, because as far as I'm concerned they can wait their f**king turn, but on the odd occasion, where I feel they won't hold me or other traffic behind me, AND THEY USE THEIR INDICATOR, I may let them in. But I have to be in a happy mood. Very Happy

Well today this wanker comes up beside me in the left lane in a Ford Econovan wanted to merge in front of me. I DONT SEE NO BLINKY POOS MATE SO F**K OFF!. Shocked

I'm now flashing my left blinker to kind of you know advise the dumb prick they you just can't push in, but all the old fart does is look at me in a puzzled face like WTF?

This went on for a few seconds, and I could see that the old man, with obviously a deteriating brain, couldnt understand what I was trying to tell him. Maybe if he used his flaimin blinker then I wouldnt have had to tell them anything! Maybe I would've let him in?

So in the end what does he do? He pulls over, hops out and checks the front of his car! Laughing

AWWWWW, I FINK SOMEFINKS WRONG WIF DE FRONT OF ME VAN! Razz

just to warn you... people whose lane is ending have the right of way.
so if they decide to merge into your passenger side door, you'll be footing the bill for your car and theirs

I'm afraid thats incorrect.

RTA Roadusers Handbook. Page 70

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/downloads/ruh_ english.pdf

Quote: "Where the lane you are driving in ends and you have to cross LANE LINES to merge with the traffic in another lane, you must GIVE WAY to traffic in the other lane".

Meaning If I'm in the continuing lane, and somebody decides to merge into my door, they pay not me. Very Happy

I think you'll find that that rule applies in stupid places such as Canberra and America where lane merges occur when the white dashed line suddenly disappears... So two lanes merge into one, rather than one lane merging into the other. If you get my drift.

I can see that in that situation, the person in front has right of way.

yeh nark, if u are in front u will be right

if u hit from back, ur farked

if u hit into oncoming traffic, again u are farked.

if u hit a bike, u are farked..

if u run into pedestrians, then again u are farked

that shits me!

so often Ive had pedestrians wander into traffic (like, 80km/hr traffic) and nearly get themselves killed!

thing is, unless you can prove they did it on purpose (which requires proof of suicidal intent) then you're going to be at fault unless you have lots of witnesses.

like a kid a friend of mine saw get hit
