MX65/MS65 hubs?? Help Wed, 21 May 2003 08:52 Go to next message
I have been searching around wreckers for some MS65 hubs and finally found a place that said they had some.
I picked them up today and they have MX65 written on them Confused
I checked on the DBA database and cant even see an MX65 listed, So I was thinking they could actually be MS65 hubs. I measured the rotors that were still attached and they roughly measure 275 x 16mm. This is all good but the DBA site has the MS65 rotors listed as 266 x 12.7mm.

So i'm totally f#*ckin lost Sad Anyone have any idea what I may have?

You probably actually have some rarish MS55 hubs. The MS55 actually came out with 2 types of disc brakes - PBR set and a Sumitomo set. I believe the PBR set actually ran 274 mm rotors.
Ultimately what is important here are the hubs - they should be identical.
I suggest you whip off the rotor and measure the hubs up. Compare these with the measurements on Ed's site. The bearings should be identical.
If they are not the same, I could probably get you a set of hubs for $50-60. I'd have to check the car is still there though.

Series 1 MS55:

Series 2 MS55:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/toycar/jasenet/crown/crown010.jpg

Soak the rotor retaining bolts in some WD40 tonight in readiness for the weekend. Usually they are pretty easy to whip off.

Also the PBR rotors were a purely Australian thing. Everywhere else got Sumitomo twin spots.

Thanks.

The model should be stamped in the engine bay somewhere shouldnt it? I might ring the wreckers I got them from and see if they can check for me!

Depends. Pre 68 Crowns definitely didn't and I can't be sure about the MS55. It was stamped elsewhere not ever checked by the RTA types (nor am I prepared to reveal it here) - this is a common way of registering multiple MS45s with one rego payment.

Sorry to be a little coy about that, but it's nice to have a couple of cars all registered at cut price. Just swap the plates, and if you get pulled over, you swapped the motor on the weekend.

the outer casing comes out. you need to punch it out from the other side of the hub with a drift and a hammer.

shane, just measure the bore dia that the bearings are pressed into, and let me know... ill tell you if theyre going to work or not..

cheers

Ok the large bearing outer casing measures 59.13mm and has LM67010 written on it, the small outer casing measures 45.24mm and has LM11910 written on it.

Let me tell you I nearly tore myself a new arsehole removing them casings Confused

What are your spindle diameters?

Outer should be 19.05mm, and inner should be 31.75mm.
