Cressida brakes on Corona struts Thu, 22 May 2003 13:06 Go to next message
Does anyone know if the MX63(?) Cressida front brakes will fit on XT130 Corona struts? Alternatively, are there any other vented discs (maybe RA60?) that will fit on? I'm trying to avoid going with the Hilux calipers due to the weight, and am wondering if anything else bolted on...

what about using the peugeot discs with the corona 2 piston calipers?

RA60 discs have the wrong height so the celica guys use the peugeot discs, check out the DBA website and d/l thier dics list, the RA60 units may work well on a corolla...

i have a ke30 and i want to upgrade the brakes in it.
But I want to do it as cheaply as possible.
So if I can get some off a car at my local wreckers(I get a good discount)
Then all the better.
The only cars there are ke70 corollas,ra60 celicas and a st141 corona wagon.
Would any of these combinations work?
Thanks for the help.

The Pug disc is 20mm (thicker because vented), so I don't think will fit into the Corona XT130 calipers (which are single pot - I've got the Girlock ones). I don't mind using the Pug disc (which in all other ways seems to match up to the Corona XT130 disc very well), it's just the heavy Hilux calipers I'm trying to avoid.

The Cressida MX73 also seems to match up fairly well, with a slightly smaller (but vented) disc, similar height but again I'll probably have to use the MX73 calipers because the discs are much thicker... Any idea if these will bolt on to the XT130 struts?

As Rob said, I think XT130 twin piston caliper should fit.

and RT132 caliper

EDIT: doh forgot to mention that the 2 piston sumitomo caliper that comes with the XT130 and RT132 is a 2 piece unit, that means to fit it to the puegeot disc u need to fab a spacer to go inbetween the the caliper..

Ah, so the sumitumo twin piston is a 2 piece? I didn't notice that (have seen a few at the wreckers). In that case, should be able to fit over any width disc I guess. Isn't the sumitumo one cast iron as well (like the Hilux one)? Wouldn't that make it amazingly heavy? The XT130 Girlock one I think is aluminium as far as I know.

Are the mounting points on the Sumitumo ones the same (90mm spacing)?

the MX63, RA60, MA6* and similar vented brakes DO NOT fit onto the XT-130/RT-132 struts!!
I tried this one out one day at pick'n'payless (43deg day!!), and the calipers on the above cars bolt onto the other side of the mounting bracket on the strut. IE they may have the same mounting spacing, but they attach on the wrong side of the bracket. So it doesn't work.

BEST/CHEAPEST upgrade it just the straight complete RT-132 (twin opposed piston simuto) with its 10.5" solid disc and large caliper. Next step is then the pug disc with the spacer in between the caliper... then if you want more you grab the hilux calipers.

Ill put up pics of the RT-132 brakes tonight... i have HEAPS of pics from that body scorching day! (my head still hurts at the memories!)

Yeah I wouldn't mind finding a lighter caliper to go with this combo. Is there any aftermarket calipers out there that would fit without making new backing plates etc?

Out of interest, RA60 brakes bolt straight onto an ST141 Corona.

What model pug are the discs off? Is the stud pattern the same? I assume they could also be used on a rt118 corona.
