head differences Thu, 22 May 2003 13:14 Go to next message
is there any difference between a eurospec 5mge, and a japspec 6mge in regards to the head??

i ask because my car is starting to blow smoke upon startup (valve stem seals) and i have a 5mge eurospec motor "lying" around.

i would put all the 6m intake gear on the 5m head.

i just need to know if there is any difference in the underside??

cheers peeps

Peewee

Cylinder head is identical between 5M-GE and 6M-GE.

You'll have to whip off the head. Other than that, it's quite easy.

Buy the VRS kit, but it will be quite exxy (?$2-300ish I'd imagine). However, it'll have all the seals you need. Shop around as the price can vary wildly.
You'll need to measure the guides and valve stems and see whether they are within spec. The short answer is it depends but usually not.

will do
but now i have the choice of doing that (at 2-300 bucks, plus any extra with guides), or i can just swap the 5mge head on it, buy a new head gasket, and hope for the best

I bought a VRS for my 7MGTE and it came stamped as 7MGE but did include the 2 turbo gaskets, and Toyota wanted $532, Repco $550 rrp.

If you have a nice mechanic like I do, ask him if it is ok to put it on their account with repco and get it for under 400...

Not cheap... But that was for a 7M, hopefully could be cheaper for a 5/6M..
