supercharger or turbo:hilux

This is for all you imaginative souls.
I have a 2wd Hilux with the 2.7L four in it. It is a dropside extra cab, and, the best thing is, it looks stock (just a bit lower if you look closely).
Suspension and brakes are sorted, I just need a bit more motivation!!
I can get a supercharger installed which will give me 140kW at the fly, but that is a bit exy. I don't really want to go to the hassle of an engine swap, but that is an option. Maybe a turbo installation??
Any ideas??
Can make work ute WORK!!??

there is a guy, somewhere around sunshine coast, who has a 2wd hilux 2.7, stock internals, and he has turboed it, made his own manifolds and all. it is a short wheel base, bloody big tyres on the back, last i heard it did 330 something horses at the back wheels. i've seen it and it looks wicked, i would hate to drive it in the rain!! the 2.7l is a big block 4cly. . sorry, but i cant give you much info on what would be better in your applicattion. i would think that a home ze blower setup would be reasonably easy and not to exp.

What do you want to use the Hilux for? Racing or working?

I don't want to race it, but I work as a financial advisor, so I don't need it for work either. Even now, with the alloy tray, it just sits there and spins if I give it stick.
I ride motorbikes, which tend to break and need a ute to carry them. All the cars I've had have been pretty quick.
Need a car which can hold its own and not be boring, but not over the top. My bike does 0 to 100 in less than 4 secs, so I can get my speed fix there.
Something a bit different is the idea. A homegrown ze job sounds like an idea. Does any one know approx prices on 2nd hand blowers which would be appropriate for this app??

Toyota blower will set you back about $350, although remember the cost soon adds up with the other bits! (management, exhaust, mounting, etc.)
Although seeing how some people have gotten rediculous power from Rodeo 2.6's in Gemini's with a turbo, I'd love to see what Toyota's version can do The 2.7 is a fairly torquey little bugger, so would be just the thing to help spin up a fairly large turbo... Just don't try to rev it too hard, and I think you'll be Beaurepaire's best customer

I've got 160KW in my dual cab ute, using a custom manifold TO3/4 hybrid turbo, intercooler and custom intake manifold, a bit costly in the set-up but a hell of a lot of fun.

I put a 3tgt in an 86 lux it was a pain in the ass nothing really fitted, (not that i expected it to) but it goes ok, go with a V6 a far cheaper and more reliable option!

160kW sounds like just about enough (if that's ever possible )
What sort of cost are we talking about? If it is less than $5k, I'm there.
Bugger all workshops where I am, so I'll have to do a lot myself.

You will not get much change out of 5 G's but if you are doing a lot of the work you self will help. I had a place in Sydney make the turbo manifold for bits of steam pipe bought for bakers industrial supplies. The flanges where cut from flat bar with a plasma cutter. You may be able to get away with using the original intake set up, but you will have to go to a programmable ECU. I’m using an EMS system and I find it great, Shame the dual cab weighs in at over 1500 kg. If I had a Digi cam I would take some photos for you.

hah well buy yourself an XR8 ute - get the custom side pipes made - add a set of 18 inch mags - and find the tonneau cover for starters
the paint and the costom fenders/pipes are all that make it super different to any other xr8 ute of the XG era
