The alternator in my MZ20 is making a real loud whirring noise. Sounds like bearings. I was wondering if the 7MGE alt is the same as the 7MGTE??

I should get it rebuilt, but if a 2nd hander can do me for a while then I will be happy Smile That is if they aren't too expensive... Razz

a crook stator or rectifier inside an alternator can also make a whirring noise.

Take the belt off and feel the bearing buy spinning it manually. This will tell you if its bearings or not.

NA 7Ms use a distributer, 7MGTEs use a CAS.

I've got both at home (they're actually Eds - sorry ed, still got 'em) if you want a look at the difference.

They are really different though, look different, act different, etc.
