Just installed Walbro 550HP fuel pump

Just put my new 550HP fuel pump in. Cost $288 incl GST(Trade Price) from Petroject in North Parramatta.
The pump states on the outside its GSS294 but I couldn't find any specs on this particular pump anywhere on the net.
There are apparently two types of Walbro pumps in the 255L/Hour range. A high and low pressure, both for EFI but the higher pressure one delivers higher fuel volumes at high pressure which is what I need as i'll be cranking up the fuel pressure to squeeze more out of the injectors. Probably somewhere around 75psi.
Star Performance sell them for $300 and rate them at 500HP and they are identical pumps.
It doesn't take much to modify the standard intake bracket to fit. Just grind out the bottom holder of the standard bracket to fit the new pump which is alot smaller than the factory pump which was still providing enough fuel for 300rwhp.
Then cut and solder the wires, put a stainless hose clamp to ensure the pump stays on the bracket and fit the strainer/filter onto the bottom and your done.
The Walbro pump is noisy compared to the stock one when you turn the ignition on and whilst sitting at the lights idling. As soon as you push the pedal the noise dissapears. The pump is probably supplying too much fuel at idle and that's why she's noisy.
I also noticed an increase in fuel pressure(@ idle) to 43psi over 38psi previous which i'll have to dial back down to 38psi with the Malpassi regulator.
This fact proves the new pump is supplying more fuel already as the increase in pressure without any other mods shows.
Apart from the slight increase in noise i'm reasonably happy, i'll see how she flows on the dyno.

Great!
My fuel pump gets really noisy. My little bro said it needs some noise suppressors. Do you know what these are? Did you put any in?

Noise suppressors only remove electrical noise not mechanical noise.

Not trying to hyjack the thread, but can you tell me more about the noise suppressors? what they look like, where they go, how many you need etc. etc.

Noise suppressors are to stop interference coming into things like your car stereo to stop whistle and high pitch noise. They're only actually a capacitor.
They won't help you with your fuel pump at all.

Ahh ok.
So why is my fuel pump so noisy (I can hear it)?

I've been running that pump for over 6 months, it buzzes away pretty loudly, but like wise, does the job well for such a small looking pump (compared to the factory mk3 pump).
I paid $254 for mine.

Stenno: Are you coming to Dyno Day mate? I'd love to see your 2JZ powered monster!!

Stenno:How much power is she putting out with that pump? What pressure are you running it up to?
I'm thinking i might have to run a fuel pump resistor and have it activated below say 3500rpm an up to 0psi to drop the flow which will also drop the noise. I'll do it through one of the outputs on the Microtech.
Pete: Just the way they are mate, noisy little buggers. It's almost definitly a bigger performance type pump. You could check it's wired through the fuel pump resistor or wire it through one like i'm going to do and have it activated when your giving it some stick.

I have a Walbro as well, and yes it buzzes away quite audibly when the car isn't moving. It seems to keep the 2JZ running though so I'm happy.

Looking into my fuel pump a bit more, mine cannot possibly be standard. With the amount of noise created is a big one. But more importantly, my injector duty cycle at 7,000 revs (peak power at 5,500 don't know what the DC is there) is only 58%!! Must be supplying more pressure then standard, and the FPR I'm using (standard 1U) mustn't be working properly - one of the return lines is bent!
