Howdy boys n girls, i am the proud owner of a 1984 toyota corona 2.0 ltr, 5 speed manual carburetted (converted from auto to manual.. best $150 of my life!!)
Now, i have decided to make some upgrades. there is also a 2.4 ltr corona that is in the same body shape as mine, which i am considering converting to. the 2.4 is EFI, also 5 speed manual, and i am reasonably certain that the driveline is the same.. now, if anyone has any experience in such conversions, particularly with this model corona, please drop me a line.. i would prefer absolutely no modding, but that may no be possible.. ideal situation is a straight drop in, and rig up the electrics. and hopefully i'm off...
needless to say, the conversion will be done by myuself, so simplicity will be the key. i have removed the engine from the 2.0 many a time before, and can do it within an hour now...
Anyway, moral of the story is i need someone to tell me if the mounts are the same, or if it will be difficult to swap the engines.
need help asap

it will be a simple swap for you except for the ecu wiring. You will require the gearbox to suit the 22r thou and also the correct engine mounts. Bound to be differences in water outlets, EFI pump and tank. Fuel lines. Im sure theres a few things i have forgoten
Where abouts are you situated?

Do you know what gearbox you have? Check on the firewall if you don't. If it's a W55/W57/W58, then you're sweet, you'll just need the bellhousing from the 2.4 and everything should bolt up.
As for the mounts. The crossmembers may be different, but you should be able to pick one of those up pretty easy.
Fuel tank is the same deal, grab one from the 2.4.. New fuel lines will have to go in, and the wiring needs to be done.

I think it's most likely that you have a W50 behind your 18R.
You should be able to get a long motor incl the W55 gearbox pretty easily.

you could consider an 18r-geu ... you'll encounter less problems (I think)
just remember, there will be modding! fuel tank, loads of high pressure fuel hose, radiator hoses....
not trying to dissuade you. just letting you know it wont be quite as simple as pulling your engine out, putting the new one in, plugging in the computer, and driving away

im in sydney... out near parramatta if that helps at all ive had a chat to a few mechanics and the concensus is that the mountings are the same, but i hadn't considered the fuel tank...
as for the gearbox, i have the 5 speed man box to suyit the 22r engine, as i have purchased the entire rt142 corona (smashed side on, but no engine damage... pretty much just the drivers door...
