Mani - be careful when you look at buying your ST-141/RT-142!! I had a look at two RT-142's at Pick n Payless the other day, one had live axle and the other IRS!! So make sure you get a model with IRS dude!! (i was freaked out when i saw it! they are side by side!) I forgot to check the rear ends of the ST-141's there, but there were millions of them!
Personally i would opt for the RT-142, since this already has all the EFI gear on the car ready to rock and roll (runs a 22R-E) and would probably be a touch heavier than the ST-141 allowing bigger conversion motors.
I think someone in your sleeper thread mentioned the RT-142 diff being an F series, so you would be able to do the same diff upgrades as an MA61 if i am correct.
Of course a 3S-GTE would be the BEST option, but it is cost prohibitive. A 1G-GTE will certainly give you the BANG FOR BUCK conversion!
As for the 1JZ-GTE. This would be my choice. A little more expensive to fit than the 1G-GTE, but definitely worth the couple of extra bananas.
Good luck my Man(i)!!
Karl W.

I'm pretty sure ST141's all come with the Borg Warner gear, including 4-speed box and live axle. A friend of mine has an ST141 and that's what it has anyway. He's in the middle of a 1G conversion and it seems to fit quite nicely; the 1JZ would be a bit of a mission and probably has way too much power for a car like that anyway (the handling is scary enough with the stock engine). A 3S would be the best option but as Karl mentioned it's a lot of screwing around. I'd go for the 1G myself.

yes the RT142 Avante` is the imported corona (kinda like the cressida grande) it has all the mod cons, IRS rear end (F series i think) and no AMI boarg warner shite...
Avante` = a very good platform for a conversion, interesting thing here, if the RT142 shares the same basic chassis as the SA63 then perhaps the crossmember can bolt in ready for a 3S-GTE conversion.
what do u guys reckon?

Nah, you'd use an ST141 crossmember. It's the same chassis so it will bolt right in.

unfortunately my mate has a few ST141's, they sometimes came with 4 speeds, sometimes with 5's
the reverse in the 5 speed is to the left of the 1st gear, so good for motorkhana.
and they some times had borg warner sometimes jap diffs
mix and match
get major suspension mods done cause they handle like a pram
