you should have a 6.7" diff i assume, unless you have a very late update diff ('87) with the update axles - in which case you still have a 6.7" diff, but the spider gears will be a bit different.
you have several options - buy a 4.1 out of a t18/ta22 etc. buy my 6.7" 4.3 buy a new one from toyota
you will still have to do some retrofitting to get it going if you do have an update diff though

Im confused too - I thought the australian AE86 had the S series diff. - I know the local KE70 had BorgWarner diff and the imported KE70 panel van had the S series diff (I have physically seen them). - The AE71 sedan (local) I presume had the BorgWarner also, AE71 import (ie panel van) probably would have had a jap diff (S ot T I presume). can anyone confirm what the AE86 had. Ive heard the AE86 had the S series in australian models and the T series in other overseas models ( as mentioned in the "F series with LSD" thread by hiaaa)
also what ae71 are you talking about as no local one ever came with rear discs.

Hey Guys!!
Aie, the best way to find out is to pull the diff out, then measure the axles and check the number of splines on them. If you want to, bring your diff to my workshop, and we can check if yours is the same as mine. Got a couple of spare axles lying around, and probably a couple of blown diffs too. Then you can confirm with Toby regarding the diff.
Gimme a buzz.... need to sort something out.

Apologies for bumping an old thread, I've got a friend with an Aus spec AE86 with a nicely bent axle. Will the KE70/AE71 wagon axles be likely to fit? Are there any other local plentiful sources of AE86 axles (right hand side if anyone cares)?
