Good luck finding one ... even the Sprinters in scrapyards have their fronts smashed in.

yeah I agree with dodgy haro...
went looking for a front end, just a standard aus spec...
and they are VERY VERY hard to find now days....
If you do have a smash, panel beat the old panels out. If you are unfortunate to wreck the headlights.... well you'll be in either for a long wait, or a huge bill (400 bux each from toyota I think). You *may* find a bumper now and again.
-------------------
For those who want a trueno front end. FORGET ABOUT IT!!!! I MEAN SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! (some people still reckon these are available, but let me assure you, they are not).
I've enquired with literally tens of wreckers all over Australia. These panels are in real high demand. Even if you are in Japan, you'll have trouble getting some. This is bcause everyone keeps smashing their truenos head on. Getting them to export these is IMPOSSIBLE, cause they don't have enough for themselves.
However, you can get fully dressed trueno frontcuts, and they are about $4.5k. And even then, there is often a long waiting list (6 months).
So yeah, good luck with your search. You may be lucky with the standard panels.

I'm in Melbourne, but I might pay postage on smaller items if interstate.
Yeah, lights, etc. are hard to find. But I've got time... it's a project car so I can wait for all the bits to come up for sale. You see people wrecking whole cars advertising on here every 1-2 months.
Are Levin Headlights the same as Sprinter H/lights??? Because I may have come across one of these, but the guy said they're different.
Yeah, I've heard about importing whole Trueno front-cuts and am enquiring about that now....
What about getting one from the US? That would be possible wouldn't it? Just the headlights would have to be changed...

Yeah, there are some pretty good importers in Melbourne. I've tried EKW toyota, Toyospares, J-Spec, and also tokyo motors. I've also tried plenty of smaller ones in which I can't even remember their names. They all said the same thing. Most of them just go... "oh yeah, the ae86 is a real popular model, and there is simply too much demand for the parts. They are often smashed up on circuits and replaced over there. So there is no possibility of us getting any".or "We get what we are given from the japanese". or "WTF? a 20 y/o car?, beat it". Let us know how you go with your search tho.
--------
yeah, the US will probably be a better bet than japan.
cause in the US, the corrolla GTS, and SR5 has not quite reached the CLASSIC level that the ae86 in japan has.
Though I asked about shipping, and in the end, they wanted something like...
$1.3k for the panels and bumper
And something like 1.5k shipping. (oversize, overweight). I didn't think it was worth it.
Mind you, the lights are very expensive. Also, in America ae86 did not pass the 5mph crash test, and so they've got different bumpers to do so. To me, they look shit. Getting my hands on a jap bumper was too hard.
I simply thought it wasn't worth it.
If you really want a trueno, I tell you whats the best way.
Buy a junker thranged up drift machine from japan. You could prolly get them for about for about 5k with no compliance. Just a scrap spare parts car. Transfer the 4age, lsd, interior, all the rare bits over. Basically an entire rebirth. I mean if you think about it in a component by component way.. You are getting value for money.
1. 4age (often race prepared with extacters, intake, exhaust)... this will probably be worth 1.5 - 2 k.
2. driveline... t50 short shift gear box, LSD(often two way)!!!!!! this will be worth 2k alone.
3. Jap interior. This is impossible to get alone, and would be the envy of many ae86ers around. (climate control!!! yeah!!)
4. the trueno panels, in which I've been quoted, if available, to be between 2k to 3k.
5. Drift rims. Depending on what sort, they are often worth about $700 bux.
6. Sports suspension. Some of these machines have had a great deal of suspension work done. This is great on your behalf.
Get all the parts over. Get it panel beated, and you'll have yourself an awesome car, that's been mechanically vouched, and is probably way better condition then a lot of the imported ae86 for over 10k!!!
plus cheaper insurance as it's still a local model, and not a grey import.

my 2 cents..
Rock on.

With regards to headlights, he could mean different things.
We call our ae86 "Sprinters".
in Japan, there are "Sprinter Trueno"
and "Corrolla Levin".
Our AE86 comes with the early "Levin" fixed lights.
So, the guy who says there is a difference could mean:
if he's referring to the "Sprinter" trueno, then there is definitely a difference (one is retractble, the other is not).
if he's referring to the auspec "Sprinter", then he could imply another variation of the levin headlights. Y'know, the ones with the plastic surrounds on the sides...
---
You obviously can't put a sprinter trueno headlight on your aus spec car. But you can put levin variants....
hope this helps..
Rock on.

hey ae86 drift.. how are ya mate..
Difference between AUS Spec and JDM ones.
-----------------------------------------
The interior I'm describing are the ones for the GTV and GT Apex models.. (not SR, or the hachi go).
There is absolutely no cloth on the interior panel moudlings. It's all plastic.
The arm rest for the rear passenger does not mould so you see the wheel arch (aus spec). But more so, wraps up around ya... VERy Classy! This is also finished in vinyl. The doors has got a mould which potrudes to give a wrap effect too... It's very similar to higher end sports cars (like rx7). The Seats are obviously bucket JDM, whereas the aus spec has got shitty 'budget' seats. THe dash is the same. Oh, and the gear stick cover goes all the way up to the knob on the jdm..
Overall.. the build quality is WAY better. Sitting inside, it feels more plush. And looks a whole lot sportier.
Difference between GT APEX and GTV ones.
-----------------------------------------
The interiors are absolutely identical, except for color.GTV has got a homely scheme, GT APEX has a more sporty one.
I'm not too sure about kouki.. but I do know about zenki.
Y'know how the aus spec interior is two tone.... blue/maroon and cream.. Yeah, the GTV has got the same scheme, only in the plusher JDM interior style. I've seen fotos of a zenki GTV and it's maroon, and cream.
The GT Apex has got maroon and sports red (most are faded now).
In terms of kouki, I'm not too sure. I'm under the impression that the GT APex has got black, and the GTV has got grey.... (don't quote me on this one).
HOWEVER, the GT Apex and GTV differs in features..
GT APEX comes with power mirrors, climate control, and power steering (all the genuine ones I've seen , or enquired have em).
thats about it..
rock on.
