hey all,
just wondering if anyone could tell me what the legal DB limit is for a 4 cylinder exhuast???

its the same no matter how many pistons u got right ???
The one i know of is 96 DB

it's the same for all cars
the old law was 96db
the new law is 92db
but as longa s your car was made before the new law came in (2001? 2002?) you can get through under the old guidelines (I think)

HEhe, my supra was measured at 103dB before the alst exhaust upgrade !!
more than twice the legal limit !

how can your supra be double the limit if the limit is 92 and your car is 103.
are u actually legally aloud to have a modified exhaust???

3db is like twice the intensity, so from 92db to 103, well thats a lot

db is a logarythmic scale (spelling?)
so if you double the decebels, you're actually increasing the noise level by a LOT.
of course, most people who know this dont know another important fact: the human ear drum actually compensates for this!
if the ear drum moved in direct accordance with incrase in noise levels, we'd all break our ear drums every time a truck drove past.
the ear drum moves more as sound increases, but not in direct proportion. it's not quite logarythmic, but it's similar.
