Hey all. I have a red top 4AGE, which is unfortunaley is burning oil on start-up, (worn head I guess). So just wondering what to do(or what can I do)-
1) rebuid the head.
2) get a different head, is it possible to fit a 20v or GZE head?
if it is what mods should I also have done?
3) Just get a new 4AGE engine.
4) Go the whole hog and get a front cut.
Keep in mind that this is my everyday car and I don't have megabucks to spend.
i.e. best bang for buck might be a different way to put it!
Thanks
My 4AG burns oil on start up and after sitting for 6+ hrs.
I am led to believe it is a worn valve stem seal. When cold, the crack/worn seal lets the oil sitting in the valve spring hole/seat drip down into the cylinder
->
start up it burns the oil off.
I have no other oil burn except high revs (5000+) or when cold above 3500 and pushing as do most 4ag.
I have good healthy compression of 200psi (exceptional for a big port 4AG. Factory compression of 178psi) across all cylinders. If you have low compression then you have other problems
Your options are:
rebuild head
OR
wiat for a while (and $$$) to decide on a PROPER upgrade rather than a FIX.
It's more an embarissing problem than an PROBLEM. (just check you oil regularly!!!)
