What oil should I put in my stock AE82 4AGE?

I just bought a stock AE82 4AGE and I've seen the previous thread on different oils but I am still uncertain what to oil to put in mine.
Should I use synthetic or not? I heard Shell helix was ok?

my old man has the same car.. done 250,000km.. its been running mobil 1 since new... still runs like a charm...
thats my 2 cents anyhow

the ae82 twincams run nicely on semisynthetic or full synthetic, they love to be looked after and regally serviced.
they run better on a good oil, i run full synthetic from Repsol in my 4agze

I think a more important point to be made about oil, that I don't think was mentioned in the oil thread, is changing it regularily.
You can use cheapo oil if you change it every 1-2000Ks, or use a good oil and change it every 5-6000.

thats what im talking about bro, if there looked after and serviced regualy they go alot better and last longer,
i change my oil & filter every 5,000km, i use to run castrol gtx3 now i run full synthetic from repsol

Whoops, my last post wasn't meant to be directed at what you had just said mate, I was talking about the 'what oil to use' question.
Use any oil, just change it regularily.
I'm using shell helix ultra, 15W-50, something a bit thicker for winter. The last oil I was using was Shell Helix plus, 5W-40.

I can highly recommend Mobil 1 5W-50.
I use it for my 250,000 km 100kw 4A-GE and is purs like a kitten.
If you decide to use it, just make sure u got no leaks coz it's a pretty expensive top up.
I've had a bad little leak for a while but i think the motor burns a bit more oil than it leaks. just keep checking your oil level if you use a thin grade oil.
Keep your eye open for other grades of Mobil 1 because there are others out there.
