ma61 diff replacement Sun, 01 June 2003 01:53 Go to next message
Hi Im Placing this thread for a friend with a 308 v8 in his supra. The diff in it currently revs too high for the v8 at 110km/hr...it is drinking excess fuel and making the engine work unnecessarily. I was told about the hilux lsd centre that can replace the supra? Does anyone know what hilux that comes out of? What model etc...And also does anyone know the ratio of that diff and the ma61 diff also? What work needs to be done to replace the centre, and how much am i going to be looking at for doing this?
Thanks.

PS: The old centre is for sale plz contact rneil@bigpond.net.au for all details.

plz don't PM me about this item.

just to let you know, many members of toymods are considering a group buy for new things (centre pins?) to change the ratio of our f and g series diffs. you might want to search for that thread, and see if it suits your needs

You need a new ring and pinion from an F series diff if you want a taller ratio. Note that you don't have to change the whole centre unless you have a specific reason to do so.

Several Toyota's come with F series diff. From the top of my head they include:
- MA61 Supra
- RA65 Celica
- Corona MkII
- MX73 Cressida
- Hilux 4WD (front diff in IFS models)

Forget getting a Hilux diff, they all have short ratios. Your best bet is to look for a Celica with a 3.7:1 or 3.5:1 ratio.

I've been looking for new F series R&P sets for my Supra because I'm in much the same boat (ie the 4.1:1 ratio is too short for my 2JZ). I've found a few places in the US which sell 3.7:1 ratios, but nothing taller than that. If anyone knows where I can find a new 3.5:1 ratio, please let me know! Yes I'm aware of the ToyMods group buy, but that doesn't seem to be going anywhere at the moment...
