1GGTE Engine Sun, 01 June 2003 12:10 Go to next message
hi
i am thinking of buying a 1989 supra which has a 1GGTE Twin turbo motor in.
i would like to know if the engine is hard to maintain.
e.g. are the turbo's always screwing up on you,
are they hard to tune.
p.s. are the parts for this car hard to get if so are they exspensive.
the guys wants $10000 for the car it has a rebuild motor and transmission, has new tyres, and a pioneer full set up.
are they really were the price.

if anybody can get back to me asap coz thinking about gettin it this week.

email me at triptek@iprimus.com.au

For that amount of money you should be able to get one with a 7M.

Not sure if you can get a twin turbo though. From what I have read in this forum the supra with the 1G in it is not as a good as the 7M as you have a 2.0L engine instead of a 3.0L.

How's this for a plan?

You buy the car, do a 1JZ conversion and sell me the engine, at a very reasonable price ??? Rolling Eyes

Oh well, doesn't hurt to ask.

I'd be sticking with the 1G - while a 1JZ conversion is a great idea, I'd be tempted to mod the 1G - these are tough little suckers, with a decent turbo, exhaust, computer, cooler, fuel system, clutch, etc., you could make decent power, and still have an engine you can rev the tits off of whenever you like - unlike a 7M!

Why mod the 1G when you can get a locally-delivered 7M-GTE model for the same money? I know which I'd prefer!
