Wearing in new Metal Head Gaskets? Mon, 02 June 2003 03:58 Go to next message
I should be getting my car back this arvo !! *finally*

Ok, It had suffered a BHG, the head was badly corroded but not warped, so it has had a full head service. I bought a TRD/HK$ MHG and ARP Head Studs. My mechanic has done all this for me, and I would like to get a few oppinions on whether I should have a 'run in' period? or will it be ok to jump in and get its booty shakin Wink?

Thanks guys !

Before the head was put on did you have the head and block cleaned (ie possibly the finest amount taken off) as metal head gaskets need the block and head to be perfect, otherwise they dont seal well, also the guy at HKS told me to coat the Head gasket with Hylomah as it also helps with MHG sealing.
But defineately a small run in period to get the gasket used to heat and stress cycles.

Craig:
Mechanic says i shouldn't need to retension them?

Ben:
The head has been machine/crack tested etc, but the block stayed in the car... Confused

See how it goes.

Went down to go pick it up and drove it out the driveway and it felt weird, so I let it go for a few misn and put my foot down a little again and it seemed to be surging in power. Like it would take off ok, but then it would come onto a few psi boost and would go weird, like the timing is out or something? So we double checked it, and it was perfect. So she sleeps at the mechanics overnight... again! Mad

Argh ! Cars.

Thanks anyway guys, I'll let ya's know how we get on Very Happy
