Its not a stupid conversion, quite common. You need a crossmember from a TA23 Celica. Or just get a TA23 Celica to start with if you find one. Performace? 115hp. 80hp @ wheels. 1/4 mile in 17 seconds. Something like that. Not fast, but its more sexual(for lack of a better word) to modify the 2T-G rather than use a newer motor.

I've seen it done a few times with good results, as the 2T/G's are a lot lighter for starters and twin cam will be better than the bigger single cam... And EFI is much better for future upgrades... (read: TURBO)
Jonny - Can't u just use a TA22 crossmember? Confused

Nope, the front end is different between xA22 and xA23; the crossmembers aren't interchangeable.

thanks for the info guys. does a t50 bellhouseing bolt onto a w50 box?

is 170hp a realistic figure to get out of one of these engines? NA of course.

i was thinking of an 2tgeu with 170hp or a 18rgu with 180hp how realistic is this?

also how hard is a ta23 crossmember to find?

oh and pumkin your car is awesome you have the same mags as me Smile

T50 bellhousing are not compatible with W50 boxes. Your best option is to use a complete T50 box as it will bolt right in, and it's lighter as well.

160hp is theoretically possible with a NA 2T-G, but not practical on a street-driven car; we're talking race-spec engine here. Of course if you slap a turbo on it that figure would be easy to attain and completely streetable as well.

Ask Rod try about big HP 2tg's - hes probably your best bet .. You can get similar but not as smooth results from a 2t-b as ive found out but the 2tg - especially 2tgeu has the added benifit of being easily stroked to 1.8lt with the 3t crank and pistons.

you can also interchange the 3tgteu inlet and exhaust manifolds with the 2tgeu head if you want a turbo swap i believe!

Yes you can. It turns out the 2T-GEU plenum and throttle body is better than the 3T-GTEU so that works out well!
