Let me change this then,

bracing to reduce 'flexing' eg....i'm guessing cross bars or something underneath

You probably need to talk to an engineer who can fabricate an alloy frame for your bonnet.

If it's a fibreglass bonnet, an easy way to brace under is to buy some polyurethane (not polystyrene) foam and cutit into strips about 30mm X 40mm X the lengths you need. Then lay them on the underside in from the edges around the perimeter, then add some more for cross bracing. Butt them neatly where they join, then fibreglass over them onto the bonnet surface. If its a steel or ali surface use epoxy resin instead of polyester. You will need at least a couple of layers of glass.

I agree with Laurie on his idea. If you have a look at some of the carbon bonnets getting around they use a bracing very similar to that on a standard bonnet, just made out of carbon. This then gets bonded/epoxied to the surface skin.

Cheers

Yup thats the way it's done. I used to work on plastic planes, and some of the parts were built the same way. Actually the wings were built that way, kind of.

Polystyrene is fine so long as you use an epoxy resin.
