Just wondering what happens when the gze knock sensor senses the motor knocking?
like sometimes my bros gze hammers all the way through every gear but then sometimes slap second and it revs but then hits abit of a flat spot and feels sluggish, does it in 3rd to.
Could it be the knock sensor retarding the timing??

There is a Tech Artical on this site about the gze and it says that it knocks for about 2 seconds then retards the timing and slowly brings it back to normal.
Before I vented my intercooler properly I used to be able to hear it ping at low revs (say 50-60 in 4th) I could hear it stop but never noticed a huge power drop. I assume it would have been pinging at higher revs too (more boost, more heat, more pre-combustion) but the motor would have been too loud to hear.
Try retarding the timing, this should stop it pinging anyway without the knock sensor and see if it makes a difference.

yeh i thought i could hear it pinging. Like in 5th gear cruising and tap the throttle and sorta pings a little and stops. Seems like it could be, I will try retarding the timing a little.
Edit - does yours still do it? Did you front mount, did that help??

Quote:
If knocking is detected the ignition timing is backed off and then slowly returned to normal unless knocking is detected, in which case the cycle starts over. The detection time for knocking is in the 1-2 second range. I dont have values for the amount of timing back-off or the return-to-normal speed. No attempt is made to drop the boost level when knocking is detected.
Just found that on a site.
So would that be it. Goes hard then suddenly dies off abit and feels sluggish. But other times it just rockets every gear and feels like it would slay anything.
