toyota modifications in Tasmania? Thu, 05 June 2003 14:39 Go to next message
Hey guys,

Just got myself a little CS corolla. Its a great little car.

Thinking of doing a 4agze mod or a 20 valve 4age.

Was wondering what were the maintenance costs that come into play with a 4agze compared to that of a 20valve.

Also was wondering if anyone had any information on where to start and who to talk to with regards to modifications done in Tassie.

Thanks in advance.

was thinking harder.

I could put up to 4 grand into the engine instead of selling the car ~4k and putting ~4k into a new car...

Wont get anything much better in the 8k market.. not without having to pay more ot mod it to make it good.

And this way I can work on a stereo for it as well after the engine is done.

Next step would be something like a 300zx or non turbo supra, early model skyline.. all around the 15k mark.. without rego, and i don't wanna go there so I think it's a wise decision,

Plus it makes a really good sleeper especially around tassie where everyones got a commodore.

A 4agze or a 4age 20 valve would crap on a straight 6 VL commodore?

I'm not really sure, just wondering would be funny though.

BTW< my car is FWD ! not that it worries me but does it make a lot of difference in acceleration being FWD compared to RWD?
I thought only thing that would be different would be handling and which wheels do the burnouts Smile

just found this guide on the site, *yes im new* this is a great site

here it is: http://www.toymods.org.au/fwd_rwd_awd.html

Hi,
Good to see you're thinking about the 4AGZE option!
If you had 15K, buy a Sivia/S13, to go fast. They are cheap, and Tassie isn't flooded in them. Have you noticed the number of R33 GTS's running around town? Beats the hell out of all the Falcoddores and Geminis. I f**cking hate Geminis!!!
Have you driven in a FWD with a bit of power? It can be a bit scary, and they are capable of changing lanes with a prod of the right boot!!! I'm just going from my experiences in a Cordia Turbo, ET Turbo and MX6 Turbo though. A lot of people love 4AGZE's in FWD Corolla's though.
Happy modding!!!

Cheers,
Justin Rolling Eyes

yeah a gze or 20 valve would beat a VL no worries. I have a stock 4age 16v and i can beat a VL, I can keep with a vn till about 40kmph but then it will start to pull away from me. do you have an ae82 or ae92? what year?

Tassie RULES! I will be home in Latrobe in October for a few weeks. Everytime I come down I wonder why I live in Sydney...

sorry, shouldn't be spamming, but I had to say. I know what you mean about the lane swapping Smile There ARE so many commodores in tassie. When I was down in Feb with my Celica, I only saw like one other.

Click on my name for all that stuff Smile I am 23. All my folks run a small church-schoo/printing press/farm/workshop in Latrobe Smile

There is a good spares place in Devonport who are significantly cheaper than all the Repco's and Autobarns, but I can't remember their name! I will look it up and get back to this thread.

I got the extractors for $300 and got them installed in Ulverstone for $100. So $400 is a real bargain for mandrel bent polished extractors.

Hey tassie guys,

for people that dont already know there is a yahoo group emailing list for toyota owners in hobart (or maybe all of tassie) called hobart-toyota with about 40-50 members, based in Hobart but with members all around the state.

just go to groups.yahoo.com and search for hobart-toyota

I'm currently putting an 18R-G in my celica, i'm near Penguin at the moment. Also in Hobart a lot of the time.

Cheers

Chris

Ah cool i'll have to check it out, probably no other supra's around tho. I barely saw any in Melbourne, just a few of the newer ones.

My mate in Sheffield is also putting in an 18RG into his corona, but i think he is having problems with an accelerator cable not fitting. By the way where did you pick up your 18RG from? i could never find them in Tas when i was after one, but now they seem to be everywhere. A guy in spreyton has 2 forsale real cheap.

Hi. I'm in Hobart. I know some people here that just done with putting a 4A-GZE in there FWD car. Also RWD 4A-GE conversions have always been popular. Baskerville is the best place to realy drive your car in Hobart, see you there some time. I am doing 1 min 12 sec now. I started the hobart-toyota yahoo list also. Please join.

hey dingaling,

there is a couple of supras around tassie, ive seen one mkII with supra 3.0 on the back, probably meaning a 7M i guess.... and there is a white mkIV and a black mkIV, there has also been a maron mkIII for sale around sandybay for a while (it was targa top too)

in The Mercury there was a mkIV targa for sale aswell.

My 18RG (early 9.7:1 compresison ratio) came out of a T-18 which had been crashed, in Hobart. i got it for $800 with extractors and exhaust, supposed to be in good condition, i'm yet to start it.

cheers
