New Toy !

Well most of you will know my daily driver is an old MS65 Crown powered bythe trusty old 4M. The crown is a tad on the thirsty side of things for the trip to and from work each day so I was trying to get over the public shame in owning an old Corolla...... (Just kidding, I couldn't find a decent one, KE10-KE25 only)
So anyway was on the way back from the weekend Wreckers run when I spotted the prime candidate on the side of the road.
So meet my new baby !
You gotta love the oh so Ugly cool factor of the early Toyota's !

http://www.toymods.org.au/~rod/Stout/Rods%20Stout/ As%20purchased%20003.jpg
And in case you were wondering its a Toyota Stout Lite. Beleived to be a 1967 Model. Its fitted with a 2T and Celica 5 Speed but its still a rough old Bitch to drive.
So be Honest........ Does anyone else actually like it ?

You said you have a crown with a trusty 4m, i never new crowns got them.
I've got a mark2 corona with a trusty 4m it is a juice guzzler especially with the 350 holley i put on it - and the fact that i've always got my foot flat on the go peddle.
So what have you done to the crown?
Ohhh and the new toy would be a wicked project car slap 454 in her. she'll be off like a jewish foreskin.

The Stout light was different to all of Toyota's other commercial Trucks and 4WD's of the Time. Instead of using the Early Landcruiser front end it has a Double Wishbone and coil set up so even the 2T is actually a really tight squeeze in the engine bay I dont thing I'll even fit a 2TG in it !
So the 2T is staying, might just get a refreah a bit later down the track. ( I don't think I'll even have room fo rthe 2T to get twin sidedrafts ! )
coronamark2
My Crown is a 1974 MS65 Crown, It the second last month they were made and with over 495,000 k's on the clock the old girl is still great to drive ! Just thirsty.
Only Mods engine wise was fitting a 5ME electroic ignition which really made a HUGE difference to the top end of the RPM scale. (It goes past 4000 RPM now lol ! ) Otherwise the engine is basically stock.
Car has a 5 Speed, Raised stiffened suspension, some dodgy old alloys, Tow bar and a headlight upgrade. Oh and an MS85 diff with the 10" rear drums and much stronger axels/centre than the stock MS65 set up.

Weirdest Toyota I have ever seen. What is the original engine/box combo 5R/N31 ?
Is that common around there?
I can imagine that sexy piece of engineering attrating horde of chicks towards it .

one word,
SALM (sic) so you have to make mudgaurds that stick up above the tray, further reducing the useful cargo space.
it needs to be matt black with clames coming from the front
love the roofline, looks like an old chevvy or something.

pity about the 2t ?? WHAT the ?
I bet with rods magical touch - a 2teu Fuel injection system , a single bad ass cam like the one i had and a good set of high comp pistons and youd have that old Stout smoking corolla boyz in no time
Rod - I trust you to liberate that 2t - Its a good thing - you know it - I know it get those spannerz turning !!
And yes - it needs chromies
Whats the stud pattern on it ? 5 stud toyota/ford or another ?

Thanks for the feedback guys.
It was actually bought the old fashioned way... Off the side of the road
The 2T will be staying and its not getting EFI either. For now all its getting is an electronic ignition setup (Just gotta grab a 22RE coil and ignitor).
Once the Celica is finished then I might play with her a little
Jayem,
Cause this is the "Stout Lite" it only had the 1500cc 2R not the 1900cc 5R. personally i like the fact it has the 2T theres afew things i have wanted to do to a 2T for quite a while now. Just need to check if i can fit a decent set of carbies in the bay. Its actually pretty tight for room in there.
GT,
The 4M doesn't have a Tacho anymore (I'll get one back in there eventually) but with the 5ME electronic ingition its reving well past there now ! In fact might be a good thing I don't have a tacho......
Craig,
It has something writen all over it mate but i don't think its Style lol !

I don't know if it's the full custom flipped checker plated, mid mounted gutted drop tank,
blinkers off the starship enterprise,
or what looks to be the rare at the moment industrail navy grey nil metalic with zero pearl that does it for me.
maybe it's the SRA Freight train front bar????

Dude,
The car was actually only $2000 which was actually courtesy of Scrote so right now its really more his than mine.
It actually needs ALOT of work before I'll be happy with it but most of it is prety straight forward.
Whoever had it before obviously new SFA about cars
# The fuel filter wasn't even clamped inline so it pissed fuel out constantly but that has been fixed temperarily with some hose clamps and I'll be mounting a fuel filter mounting bracket soon as I get the chance.
# The thermo fan needs attention as its wired to be on constantly so that needs a relay and thermo switch.
# The battery just sits there (Nothing holds it down)
# The earth strap it to short and is not bolted to the body (Its also all freighed)
# The radiator header tank leaks like a sive and needs a new core (Its the original core !!)
# The clutch slips like a bastard so that need replacing.
# It only got about 1/2 throttle before. I have got it to around 2/3 throttle now but when the new carby goes on i'll ensure that completely sorted out.
# The horns and washer bottle looked cluttered in the bay so i have nearly finished relocating them.
# The Engine is about 5 degrees of deing dead straight in the bay so that bugs the hell out of me and needs to be fixed
# Because its crooked the alternator can just touch the lower radiator hose (That means I have a good excuse to make new mounts and straightenthe engine )
# And of course compression is down in number 1 so I have an excuse to drop in a "new" 2T (Bloody thing still goes like a champ tho so there is no hurry)
# Oh yeah also needs a new fuel filler cap as it leaks a little
# Tires are good tread wise but old so they will get updated (maybe with some bigger rims if I can find a set at the right price )
# Instrumentation also needs expanding.. Only has a speedo and fuel and temp guages so a Tacho and oil pressure guage are going in at the very least.
# mmm Prolly needs some form of a stereo too !
# And of course it only has 2 weeks rego !
BUT... It chassis is dead straight The rear Tray is in awesome nick and the body has no accident damage at all and absolutly bugger all rust !
So even tho it sounds kinda bad reading whats wrong with it I recon it was a Bargain ! (specialy since i bought it with Scrotes money lol )

That's in great condition. I saw the first stout i've ever seen in real life less than a month ago. I think they're a classic
2T???? i thought therey were supposed to have an old R-series in them. The owner of the rough stout I saw said his had a 5R IIRC.

I'm sorry rod but the toyota stylist must have been on a heavy course of laxatives the day he penned that front end. The toolbox and front bar look like they were designed by the same bloke.
I think Witzl has the right idea though, some big hornes on the bonnet and while your there, whack a gun rack on the roof and a gator in the tray.
It would look pretty cool if you cut the bumper and put a dirty big intercooler between the lights. Mac Truck style

Anthony,
The rear Tray, Toolbox and front Bar are all aftermarket accesories. Someone actually paid extra for that front bar !!!
No intercooler for this one mate, This will stay powered by good old N/A pushrod goodness for now Lets see if it can't crack the all time lowest kw output at Dyno day lol
