i just bought what i thought was a w58 supra box. now when i got home i counted the ratio in 5th. 10 turns in gives 11.75 out. so would this indicate that the box i have is a w55?? and yes it definately does have an alloy casing and a STEEL sandwich plate.
is this an x-file??
any help is appreciated

w59 can actully be a not bad box if used in combination with a 3.712 diff ratio (or there abouts)...
well, yeah, depends on the engine you want to gear it onto, but for a 7m at least, a w55 or w59 with a 3.712 came up quite nicely.
and yeah, w59 isnt that common, but theyre out there..
cheers

GT,
yeah i did count every turn, its definatley 10 in and 11.75 out
but i will recheck tomorrow (also first gear)
ED,
i am planning on using a g series hilux LSD diff as i have one lying around. its ratio is 4.3, am i right in thinking that that combo will be a pain in the poop chute??
cheers

not if youre planing on using it in a tractor
id be stting down with a calculator if i were you. look at your engines power band, then calculate your final drive ratios for different box/diff combinations.
see what suits the engine and your driving habits.
