hi
i would like to know if a 5me engine with a turbo which i got from a mk2 supra will fit into the 1981 ra40 coupe's.
if so what mods do i have to do to install the engine.
will my 5 speed gearbox from the 18rc engine fit onto the 5me engine.
p.s. what would be the hp on a turbo model 5me?

The 5ME powered 'RA40' existed....it was the MA47. Never released here, but there are maybe 10 or so in Australia (sadly I know where 6-7 of them are). Don't even bother getting one unless you want to spend a lifetime getting extremely rare spare parts and having your bonnet badge removed.

As for putting a 5M in an RA40, don't waste your time. A standard 5M isn't too much better than the 18R that's in there. The MA4xs had a much longer engine bay to accommodate the longer engine. Much better to replace the 18R with an 18RG or, dare I say it, a 1G of some description.

Please do a search....both of these swaps have been documented to death.

I know of a few 5M-TE's
They didnt come taht way...just the same as 5M-GTE and 6M-GTE's didnt
Make sure there is a good seal on the gakset and that its torqued down enough, apparently they can blow easily if things arent good Smile

Like this one? Very Happy

Use the MTE manifold, torque up the head gasket, and most importantly, run the MTEU dizzy (it runs 15 degrees of boost retard). The 5ME ECU will support up to 10 psi boost. A RRFPR will assist with fine tuning the fuelling and XF Falcon injectors will provide adequate extra fuelling. Instant upgrade is a VL turbo...it's a T3 and bolts straight up to the standard manifold.

Or you could build a ~450 hp variant like this:

Ran a 13 second quarter in a bargy Crown with standard suspension and tyres.
