4AGZE Dilemma, Some help would be RAD.... Thu, 27 June 2002 05:08 Go to next message
Boys and Girls,

Ive been offered an AE92 (108kw version) 4AGZE for sale with uncut loom, ECU, complete engine (no intercooler though) for $750 maybe $680.

The problem is though that its in a couple of peices. I had a look and this is it as it stands.
- Head & Cams removed along with anything else required to remove the head.
- Bottom end still unopened.
- no intercooler (was going to go 7M cooler anyway)

So some qustions....

* Just how 'inferior' is the earlier AFM and twin coil version?

(As far as i know it still has the strengthened block and oil cooled pistons, are the conrods, pistons and crank still the same?, does the lower compression have any effect?)

* Is it simply the smaller pulley/compression that gives the later versions the 20odd extra kilowatts?

* Aswell as anything you think i may need to know, dont hold back the more info i can get the better off ill be.

Im going to see a workshop that ive had some good experience with about the cost of giving it a check over and putting it all back together. But some have said that once an engine has been opened its extremely hard to get it back to factory specs (if you know what i mean).

I was looking at purchasing a frontcut with a MAP varsion 4AGZE but my money situation (they cost about $2500 here) and their availability will not warrant a purchase for some time.

Help me peoples....

I didn't know there was a 108Kw ZE? I thought it went from the 103Kw bigport MR2 ZE to a 118, or 123Kw or something? And then there was a 126 or so Kw motor?

If it's supercharged, I'd imagine it would have the forged pistons, but I guess it would be better to get this confirmed.
Do you know the C/R?

Freak have a look here, for some technical data, i'm not sure where exactly he got all his info (it's on there somewhere), some of his info is different to what i have read on other sites, but still interesting to read whats there.

there was 108, 123 and 126 versions. Main difference between the power of the 123 and 126 was the dual exhaust. The two later versions are a fair superior motort then the 108 in everyway. Not that the 108 is a bad motor by any means. Depends on what do you want from the motor

probably would have been me, I have told a few peoples how i did it so I cannot remember everyone, but the name does ring a bell.

Give you a tip.. bugger teh sc14, go for a turbo on teh stock AFM Computer... runs like a dream and pulls a lot harder in the high gears, and thats with 8psi and no cooler! Smile

Just what makes the later ones more superior and are they $800 or so more superior?,

Just out of interest what are the different patterns on the SC pulley. Isn't there one with a cross pattern, and another with a type of snowflake jargon type pattern? (this one has the cross if it helps anyone)

From what ive read they all have forgies of some description and the fat bastard conrods and steel crank are the same across the range. Same with the reinforced block and piston oil jets.

Im looking at the engine to make about 200 - 220hp (flywheel) sustainably with standard internals. Weather through turbo & stock ECU or Stoopercharger development (pullies 1G charger).

Ive read a mass of information on the complete 4A-G family of engines however the problem is that much of the info is conflicting.

I suppose i could contact Toyota Japan for some official specs. Anyone know which part of Toyota?
