I was wondering,
whats the difference between an 18RG and an 18RGEU?
im putting one of the two into my RWD 79 Corolla and funds ARE limited.
Also, is putting a 18RG into a 79 corolla a complicated operation? i can do the mechanics but i understand nothing about microchips or emission control.
I need a hand thanx

There's stacks of info available on these forums. Do a search!
In a nutshell, the most obvious difference is the GEU is EFI while the G has twin Solex sidedraughts. The GEU has lower compression pistons (8.3:1 as opposed to 9.8:1), but it also has bigger valves and ports. The GEU cylinder head is actually the best one to have, so if you chuck in some high-compression pistons you get the best of both worlds!

you would have to do some custom engine mounting arangments to fit the 18R-G variants into your old Corolla (im guessing KE55?)
A better, easier and most likely cheaper alternative would be to use the 2T-G. They were actually an option in the Japanses Trueno Corolla's (GT's etc) and aren't too hard to fit into a KE corolla at all.

i dunno bout the weights exactly, not huge amount in it but the 2t will be a bit lighter definately. try searching the toyota-related worldwide websites. the 18Rs are a heavy donk, i know that one!
As for -GZEU, Do it for something different, you'll have a monster torque machine that sounds tough as. will wheelspin all nite. probably do a pretty decent 1/4 mile to with some good traction .
A 4Agze would probably end up cheaper in the long run tho because they have a bottom end built for forced induction, as well as 20yrs different technology, where as the 18R's are strong but more of a truck engine, 70's design. 4A will be lighter meaning better overall body weight balance, its 16v head, you have way more options with ECU's/ignition, there are a lot more turbo setups floating around for 4As, etc....
my 2c..

Hey man
THanks dude. So you'd recommend trying to track down a 4a or something of the likes? HOw bout 7ke or something like that? Any other unique engines for corollas? I love 4agze' and 2tg but I hear it too much, go unique. lol!
Thanks
