Take the hose off from between the intercooler and the throttle body. Use some sort of filter on the throttle body of course

you're looking at all the hard, mechanical solutions (which you'd hope they'd be able to fix, being mechanics)
when you drop it off, just make sure they see you writing down the kilometer reading in something that looks like a log book. fit a comment into conversation about how you never let anyone else drive it, how much you care about it.. etc etc.
if they ask what you're doing (which would be a good thing.. keep them waiting a little while if you can) mention that the last place you took it to flogged it around and clocked up a few kms .. you get the idea, expand on it where you think appropriate/believable

Then watch as they disconnect the speedo and proceed to treat it far worse as a result of being asked not to

yeah true
but if the plugs are back in ask them WTF they are doing back in ?
best bet is to find a mechanic u trust and/or a mate
And like someone said....they're not ALL dodgy pricks ....but yes if it was my car i wouldnt trust them either

I'd fiddle with the wastegate. If you can make it stick open, then you're fine.
Don't think this'll cause any harm. Can't think of how it could...

tell me, why do they need to drive it around if you are only getting something done on your sump??
write down the k's on your speedo, i doubt very much that any mechanic will disconnect your speedo just so they can go for a flog!!

Yeah tru no ones gonna go to the effort of disconnecting the cable
but he wants to PREVENT them flogging it not to catch them
ok so he finds out theres too many K's on his speedo
whats he gonna do.....make them pay for a rebuild ?
not gonna happen
how about put a brick under the accelerator pedal ..... and bolt it to the floor so it cant be moved
yes i know putting a bolt through clay isnt gonna work but u know what i mean
im just trying to make it as simple as possible
Thanx

Steering wheel lock?
When you tell them how much it owes you maybe they will understand your concern and hence the precautions?

Grim boy: i dont trust any mechanics, they work for peanuts most of them hate there job and there boss and look for something to brighton up there day
i dont think paul ment anything bad by his comment so just relax a little
mrshin: i can imagine them doing that on something like a brand new Mustang or something but not mine
ill mention to them the diff is on its last legs , they wont wanna risk repairing it, plus there is no need for them to drive it
wilbo666: thats the funniest thing!! im LMAO i can imagine there faces lol
But finally i wreckon les is right ill just be trustworthy but still mention the diff
respect!

My advice is take it to an old mechanic. It will only be the apprentice that wants to thrash your car. The old ones are still reminiscing about working on GT falcons and Toranas......Now they were quick cars blah blah blah.
Alternatively I can recommend a good mechanic, my old man, but I don't think you want to drive to Hornsby every time you want the car fixed.

no, not all
I've never actually had a bad experience with a mechanic (only been to two)
but I know of people who have, and I know one or 2 apprentices who talk about the thrashings they give the sports cars that come in.
and also one or 2 who have written off expensive sports cars doing that

O.k Mechanics are like any tradesperson.some good some bad some honest some absolute thieves .it happens in every Industry .
Dont be offended just becuase you are honest.doesnt mean everyone is . AS IS WITH ANY INDUSTRY INDUSTRY A FEW TOOLS CAN MAKE THE REST LOOK BAD
i walked into a workshop once to gear the guys bragging about how easily my celica lit em up .And how it burnt 2nd gear for 30 metres .
Another left his car a a TOYOTA dealer only to overtaken by it 10 mins later . he then chased it watching 1/2 a dozen serious drifts . he got back to the dealer and watched the guy shut it of immediatley with no cool down
Try this!! tell em its modified and you havnt yet fitted a decent fuel pump yet .anything over 1/4 throttle it pings its head off goes into some kind of limp mode and shuts down and can barely be driven .If this happens they need to reset the ecu and reload the map .AND YOU FORGOT TO BRING THE DISK
THEN tell em the thing is if they even go over 1/4 throttle it will probably kill the engine due to no fuel .
i tried this at a workshop and the guy lectured me for 10 mins about getting a decent pump and how silly it was to even drive the thing .........i agreed told him he knew his shit and he put a note in the book in big writing DO NOT DRIVE .
The best thing is i didnt offend them and although they are a good workshop that doesnt make up for 1 possible dickhead
May not work in every case but it might plant the seed of doubt.
Otherwise pull the biggest vaccum line you can off the intake .It may be enough to stop boosting

grim boy
Dads workshop is in Jersey street, near the station.
He is a master with carby motors and gets excited if you show him a multi-carb motor. Short of a dyno tune, you won't get a better tune on multi carbs.
He is probably very convenient for you if you are working in Hornsby.
