White Faced Gauges - Legal in Vic?

Just wondering, I see alot of cars floating around with all the gauges gone and autometer gauges in their places - but thery're white faced - I vaguely remember someone telling me that white faced gauges are not legal?
Can anyone confirm this?
Although when you think about it, the CE Lancer VRX had white faced gauges from the factory, and I think the new Corolla does as well?
Well seieing that VT-Vy Commodores are the worst offenders with blue red green and pink faced guages as STOCK in their SS's - i see no harm in whitefaced guages
Corollas have pretty neon like Blue faced guages - look Very cool and are easy to read
Gt4's like mine have an inadequite dimmer switch and boring radioactive green glow colours !
White face Gauages are legal as long it does not create attention by others.
Plus there are no real rule under the vic roads about the colour of the gauges.
