2TG/2TGEU Specs Needed ! Thu, 12 June 2003 07:20 Go to next message
IM about the rebuild a 2tg/2tgeu engine.

Im unsure exactly what it is though it came out of a TA22 1971 Celica. So it would be a 2TG then...but on the front it says 2TGEU. But now comes the strange thing..it only ever had side draft carby manifold 2x40mm solex...

So i really need some info on the engine -

Spec Sheet plz ppl Smile

The 2T-GEU came with EFI from the factory, but it's fairly common to see them with the EFI removed and replaced with carbs from a 2T-G. Some foolish people believe the carbs are better. Rolling Eyes

As for specs, you can buy a T series workshop manual from Toyota which covers the 2T-G. That should be all you need to rebuild any 2T engine.

norbie and his love of EFI... Twisted Evil Razz

check the model number on your head.. i think from memory the 2T-GEU head number was 88227 or something similar? If rod sees this thread he should be able to say for sure.

A lost of people used the EFI head's since they had the bigger ports/valves etc, and combined with the earlier cams and high compression pistons makes for a pretty decent engine!

If you are rebuilding.. maybe a thought might be using the 3T bottom end? Have a search on the forums for info on that one.

Mazda 626,

The 2TG's and 2TGEU are all getting on a bit these days so its not uncommon to see the parts mixed and matched a bit.

Norbie is right in saying alot of people remove the EFI in favour of carbs. As for Norbies opinion of this being foolish.... Ignorance is bliss and Norbie seems pretty happy <img height="17" width="17" src="images/smiley_icons/tongue.gif" border=0 alt="Razz">

What you leave on the car in terms of fuel supply really does depend on your budget, what you want to do with it, Where you are going to drive it and what sort of HP you are aiming to acheive.

The head series number is on the Right hand side of your head and should read 11111-882xx

If its 88260 it was probably and EFI Head originally. If it says 88261 it was an EFI head and if it says nothing you have the high emissions control 88262 head.

The original Carby head was an 88220 and that had the small valves. The second generation carby head was the 88222 and was the first of the big valve heads. All the heads after that had the same size valves.

There is alot of info on the 2TG and 2TGEU on these forums. Use the search function (top right) and have a good long read of what has already been covered.

Hope that helps.

Well im currently considering two things..

Selling my current car *probally will*
And buying either
-S1 Rx7 with a 13b 5sp

- Ta22 Toyota Celica - And swaping it to a 3tgte, The only reason why i have the 2tg is because my cousin did the 3tgte swap with his Ta22.

But i got to think what will be the best in the long run.

I also have a 3tgte auto box.

I'm pretty sure the compression between the different 2tgs was altered only by the pistons, so there should not be any change in compression
