I was cruising around the Performance Forums when I came across this. How cool would it be if they'd retrofit one to a 1UZFE or 3UZFE...that would be intereting....look at the horsepower increase.

At least the 1UZFE would have the internal strength and refinement to push past the limits they were testing at.

I came across that site I while back now, & found it fascinating. Now what I want to see is this combined with that new Aussie engine that is a flat design & has the tri-shape crank & the opposing pistons on common rods. That would make for an interesting motor!

Now when is some of this shit gonna be adapted to what we use?
Why aren't the big companies developing this sorta stuff?

Haha, you know what, I was thinking the exact same thing!

REVETEC have done the hard work making the bottom end rev and be more efficient, now these guys have made the top!

I reckon everyone puts in a bulk load of cash, to get them to develop one for the 1UZFE Smile

Okay, maybe thats too much of a fantasy, combining both of those. My theory, is we strap it to a 3UZFE block. They have an even wilder bore/stroke ratio than a 1UZFE.

If that 5l engine can make 400hp+ by taking it to 5500rpm, what would happen if you took the rotary-valved 3UZ out to 8000rpm?

One question though, what would it sounds like? Like a normal engine?

I'm in love with that valve train!
No abuse please, but imagine this head on an S2000 engine!?

Cheers,

I havn't read the link yet, but this is a far from new concept, They were using this system in teh 1970's in F1 cars. It works really well, however there is an inherent problem. It is not manufacturable. It requires very high tollerances to work properly. They type of tollerance that is not practically achievable with current manufacturing techniques. Ralph Sarrich had the same problem with his rotary engine. In the lab it worked, but it couldn't be manufactured in bulk.

I am sure if you had the development budget of an F1 team, you could make one for a 1UZ. But then again if you did, you wouldn't be putting it in an old Toyota.

In the article they say about how they've developed kits for popular engines (read: old-skool V8's Smile ).

They also say in the article something about designing a kit for a "the block of your choice" starting at US$15000. Okay, thats obviously not cheap, but its not exactly an F1 style budget either.

There was a guy called Dunstan who made rotary valve heads to suit Holden Grey motors back in the 1950's. Apparently they were pretty succesful in racing, but worked much better supercharged.

Shit, can you imagine a 1UZRE (wouldn't be an F-head now would it? Laughing) matched up with some current turbo technology...*drools*

A couple of quick corrections -
- Rotary valves have never been used in F1.
- Harold Clisby, the guy that was made popular with air-compressors, was the guy that made the rotary valve Holden Grey motor. It was in a hydroplane in South Australia, and used to blow away small block Chev's.

i wouldn't say ralpg sarich's engine worked all that well, from what i read it "ran" but in the end he used a holden carby, and just got it working like that.

the problem was sealing the combustion chambers, not the mass production, he concentrated on 3 cylinder two strokes utilising lean burn air shear fuel injection after that.

i havent heard too much about them though, just a few vague references to a fleet of ford festivas.

id like to drive a car that uses tehse rotary valves though, and 15 grand is pretty cheap to get the work done, you would just want to be able to get as much power out of it as you would from a decent turbo setup though.

the final word in this is fuel cells, they don't even fck around with any moving parts.

Don't get me started on f'ing fuel cells. They don't have a soul, they are nothing more than electric car with a fancy array of hydrogen cells for batteries.
