7M-GE in a MX73 Thu, 27 June 2002 17:11 Go to next message
dear mates,
I'm going to do a conversion like this(a 7MGE into my cressida), what do I have to worry about? the most important thing is,
1) does the 5ME auto box a bolt-on job?
2) If I want to change to a manual, would the supra MK2 pedal box fit?
any thing need to take care of?

As I'm a newbie, any help would be appreciated.

Your original box will bolt straight up to the 7mge.
The 7mge will bolt in on you engine mounts. All the M series engines have the same block casting from 1967 right through to teh last 7m in 1991/92 or so.

What are you doing for an ect? cos if you're wanting to run the 7mge unit you may as well put the 4 spd trans in that go's with it, lock up converter etc' and use the 7m's ect and trans computer too!

Everything else is pretty much in the same spot as your 5m. If you're lucky you might find that the exhauast manifolds are swappable as well, but i'm not 100% sure about that.

Not sure about the supra pedal box fitting, you may find the equivalent model 'chaser' from japan came in manual form, hence a pedal box might be available ex-japan. Someone else here a while ago got a manual pedal box for an MX83 the same way.

As for your steering bush, can't help you. I've got an MX83 but no steer drama's. Also have a 1968 crown with a 7mgt.
cheers struan.

7M block casting is different to all previous M series engines. Most of the bolt holes etc are in the same place though, so it should be a piece of piss to mount up.
