actually - just read the post
if you can find a hole in the ford block (that communicates with a top end water gallery) with the correct thread to accept the temp sender from the original 5m-e just lob it in. if it doesnt fit however, adapters are available (maybe earls? - anyone). remeber, the 'correct' operating temps may differ slightly, so keep this in mind when reading the gauge.
as for the tacho - wont work - supra elec tach is calibrated for a 6cyl - not 8. may be a way to fudge somthing into the setup, but i doubt it. new tach required
you get good answers when you ask reasonable questions huh

yeah sorry that was a stupid question about the tacho...i remember now that the 6 and 8 are totally different...
Will probably end up with a vdo one under the dash
Ill have to have a look on the block about the temp thing...but if it all becomes too hard...i guess another vdo is the way!
All you people with the 7m/1j/2j and others - what have you done regarding the temp/ tacho situation?

Because the 7M/1J/2J engines are all 6 cylinders, the tacho signal will be accurate. However to actually make the tacho run, these guys run a black box that alters the signal in some magical way (I'm not electronically inclined). Our very own Grant (sixworks) sells these black boxes.

those black boxes are only to convert low voltage signals from individual coil packs to a signal analagous to that from a high voltag single dizzy/coil setup...
v8 is another wold of electronic dramas...

how about the temperature gauge setup? Surely it alters significantly between what is "normal" from the 5me to 7m/1j/2j???

Personally, I'd plonk it all in and run it. Check the temp independently with a thermometer to make sure it isn't overheating.
