icon8.gif  half way pop up head lights? Wed, 15 May 2002 11:28 Go to next message
Hello again youall.
I've heard of headlight kits for pop up head lights that only raise up about an inch or two instead of all the way. I'm wondering if these are shelf items of home made.
Are most MR2's i see with these type of headlight displays permanently raised to that hight weather on or off?
I've got an MA70 and want the headlights to only pop up about an inch & half. I guess this will require re positioning of the bulbs and all?
Any suggestions.
Fank u.

As far as i understand, most people with headlights set up like that have them so that they stay open an inch or two when in the down position, so they still open fully for use. This is usually to use the headlight as an extra cold air intake, for a pod filter for example.
Some cars have treaded adjusters that set how far down the light goes, so you can wind them up to the desired hight, if not ya just need to find another way to trick them into staying open when they think they are shut.
As far as making them only open part way, thats prolly not as good an idea because the headlight wont be much use at all if its half shut when yer trying to see the road.

I think you're talking about the half lift kits... You need new lights and then adjust the height in some way... I don't know anything about them, just know that's what they're called...

If ure doing this for cold air dont bother.

If you look down behind the headlight u will see a flat bit of plastic.
Now on my Jza70 i have a pod that goes right up to the front right of the engine bay.
Cut a big ass hole in the plastic make a scoop of some sort.
And be sure sure to cover with flywire or something to stop the nasties (birds bugs etc) from getting into the engine bay.
And whola a cool air intake. Grin

One way to keep them up half way, but a bit of a chore.

Flash the lights with the headlights down, then as they're retracting move up to the first notch on the stalk and they stop dead wherever they are positioned.
