RA28 -> auto transmission tunnel Sat, 14 June 2003 02:07 Go to next message

Is it true that the auto has a slightly larger transmission tunnel???

would this more advantageous for installing the w58 ? or will that require completely new mountings?

there is plenty of room in the transmission tunnel for a w58 in there.. whether or not there is a difference in the size of the tunnels between an auto or a manual

I highly doubt there would be any difference between the auto and manual trans tunnel. Why would Toyota make 2 different shells for one model car.

Sure,

I made a thread a few days regaurding various suspension set- up for the ra28, we came to the conclusion of some serious maths needed...

Have you done anything to compenstate handling ??

i'll take that as stock... and handling refering to the amount of pitch / roll problems...

nevermind, some of us sacrificed the extra potential of the 1 j, in order to reap the benefits of better handling.. different ball park to daily drivers.. although i cant see why u changed from the 18r if ur not going to give it a little everynow and again....

Confused - nevermind -

the original comment was actually directed at Cool1..
"What handling thoughts / ideas / setups do you have ?"

But seen as though you (Bugman) said your car was a daily driver, i assumed your suspension set up was standard...

I was merely asking around for ideas to be put on the table, because if I really wanted Sh*te handling, I would have put a 1J instead of a 1G..... and (cool1 hadnt replied to the actual thread about suspension,)

understand now? okie dokie then........

u will find if u read over celicamads recent posts (dont remember what thread it was) that the 1JZ can actually aid the handling of the celica if conversion is done correctly..

thanks rob, i've been hopeing someone would stand up for the 1j... it seems even if you used the 1j in a conversion you would have the liberty of having some excess weight in the back, however to acheive even half the power using the 1G, ud have to strip it down to the shell leaving no room for luxury.... and seen as tho there not much in the way of engine internals apart from cheap new enigines....
