Suspension vs. my wallet Sat, 14 June 2003 06:15
Been considering my options re my shagged suspension and was hoping for some opinions..

So first up, i've got an '88 mx6 which still has the AAS (Automatic Adjustable Suspension or something to that effect) springs and shocks combo.

As i understand it, this system works by adjusting the firmness of the shocks via a valve run down the centre of the shocks which is wound open or closed by a motor at the top of each strut. The springs are softer than usual so a bit of their 'work' is offloaded to this modified shock which is why changing only the shocks response can alter the whole cars suspension.

Have I confused everyone yet? Good, here comes the question

Will ONLY changing the springs improve the ride at all?

Before everyone goes nuts, yes i understand you should change springs and shocks together but honestly the cost isn't justified. I can put new springs on for ~250 whereas the whole packages is going to run ~1000

Seeing as the shocks real job is to stop the rebound of the spring (leaving myself way open to correction here) the AAS ones should still work reasonably? right?
