good timing too...

1989 marks the earliest 180sx, and silvias have been available since 1988..

so wot does this mean? they are eligible for the 15 y/o scheme... so less compliance $$..

not that it matters much cause these cars are pretty common, and you'll pickup a good deal with current stock...

180sx are about 10k +
silvias, depending if it is K, or Q would bet about 7.5k +

these cars often have low kms, and a lot are in good condition..
guess they were real popular cars when new.. and demand isn't too high yet.

good hot up parts too, and real cheap I might add..
rock on.

Don't bother importing, just buy one second hand here.

You can have a decent look over them and a test drive before you drop 10-15k. You know how common they are here, and importing one of them really doesn't end up much cheaper if at all. These cars are pretty old by Jap standards so I reckon most that are exported now will have been modified and/or thrashed.

So just check the trading post and go test driving.

Yeh, morg I totally agree with Henn, buy a car here. Import is a lot of hassle and only worth it if you want to import something newish, and around $20,000. With the new laws, in place you will have to pay more. And a rule that has just come in is the fact that it costs regtered importers $20,000 per model of car that they import. 180/silvias have lost their popularity, so not many places would have these. Plus it takes over three months sometimes just to get the car on the road. You also cannot see the car or drive it before you get it. And you would be lucky to find a car that is around 15 years old in Japan, because rego goes through the roof after 6 years (cars are bought with 3 years rego when new). Jap govt. encourage people to sell their cars to keep the ecomomy booming so keeping a probably thrashed 15 year old car is just false economy, as it is for you. look local mate... hope i was of some help

Just re-read my last post.

Didn't mean to sound like importing a modified car was bad. Just that something 15 years old in Japan has probably had a fairly strenuous life and may not last too much longer without major work.

If I was in the market for a Silvia I would buy my mates. It's in amazing condition (he gets it detailed each month with a polish and the like...something I can't see the value in at $100 a pop)

It's had a re-spray in the origional blue.

Frount mount IC done in Australia by ARE in Brisbane.

S15 turbo

Boost control

Hi Tec exhaust

3" all the way

Big Dump pipe from the turbo

New tyres on Racing Heart wheels

HKS metal head gasket

Digital dash

Head up display

WAY too much money spent on it. I know cause I have had a broke friend for 2 years.

He isn't one of those crazy Silvia drivers either.

I know I have forgotten a few things that he has done. I know he bought it for $11,000 and has spent close to $11,000 on doing it up since. It's a great car in great condition that hasn't been flogged...a good buy.

It's in the Trading post online if you want to get the number....he lives in Ballina
