hey guys,
my brother is thinking of doing rhis conversion,gt4 3sgte motor into his st185 sx fwd celica...
is it a bolt straight in conversion?
do you need a brake upgrade if i didnt get a front cut?
does it need to be engineered?
how long will the stock fwd gearbox and driveshafts last?
how much will i pay for just the engine its self no front cut?
hopefully if you guys can help, my bro will have a gt2...

eh? st185's already have a 3s-gte in them
unless you mean your taking a 3s-gte out of a st185 and putting it into your st182 (or was it st184??).
I wouldn't use your stock gearbox it would probably break after a week or so. I've heard of people using sw20 mr2 lsd gearboxes and using the halfshafts from their celica to make it fit(?)

its not a straight bolt in - but close to it
yes you would need to engineer approve it
yes you need better brakes ( small brakes + more power = Soon to be dead driver )
use a MR2 gearbox + halfshafts i believe
Motor alone is about 2 grand from most dismantlers
its also a good idea to upgrade the suspension + exhaust at the same - budget for that, Also what are you doing for intercooling - Gt4 Bonnet for the air to air topmount intercooler of the ST185 ? Frontmount ? Budget for these too.
Ask CeLiCa on this list - hes done this conversion
And your brothers car is a ST184 SX i think - not an St185

Just curious on this aspect as I'm in the process of saving for an st205 gt4 cut for my st162, with regards to engineer inspections and so forth, what is generally required? and any idea's on costs involved?
Thanks

to be honest i dont know the cost of engineering ..
they have to make sure all things liek engine mounts , elecrtronics etc are all done RIGHT so the thing doesnt fall to bits ..
best bet would be to call around for some quotes before doing the job and ask what they focus on ..
