If any one is interested in joining the Dry lakes racers and racing on Lake Gairdner in 2004, you can contact me or have a look at our website www.dlra.org.au.
The racing is over 5 days, and is single car on a track layed on the salt lake. It is pure top speed, and pure adrenalin. Our fastest car is running 297 MPH. The full rule book is on the website for download. Cars need to have roll bars or cage, file system. Drivers need 6 point harness, drivers suit and helmet.
The meeting usually has from 40 to 60 cars and bikes. The best of the V8 production cars and the high power bikes are running in the 190 Mph range. Our fastest six cylinder has run in the 180 Mph area. My own car, which is a home built one, called a lakester, which runs a 1JZ-GTE, with damaged turbos, ran 145 MPH this year. The aim is to run 200 MPH, set a record, and join the DLRA 200 MPH club. The track is 9 miles from start to finish. There are three miles of wind up, although we usually only use two for most of the meeting, then three timed flying miles, and the first mile also times your first quarter mile, after which you can slow down if you don't want to push your luck. For the fast cars, after the 3 timed miles, there is a 3 mile roll off.
The event is run in the stunning scenery of the Lake Gairdner national park. This is where a lot of car ads are filmed. The last lot that I remember are Ford, Mazda and Volvo.
You can email me at JBROUGHatTELSTRAdotCOM My car is at www.users.bigpond.com/jbrough.
The meeting is great fun, and all comers are welcome to compete or have a look. It is a long drive, but worth the effort.

It is in Australia. It is in South Australia, about a hundred and 80 K north west of Port Augusta.

Hey,
I know Kev Saville - he built the carbs for our race engine. Shame he didnt take the beast to the salt this year.
anyone interested should rock along. Its a MAJOR 5 day horsepower party.
If i didnt already have a chosen form of motorsport.....

Kevin is expected back to race next year. He has been looking from the sidelines for a couple of years due to the short supply of 186 Holden blocks suitable for a blower. He has now started working on an RB30. He is the current record holder for a 6 cylinder at 179 Miles Per hour. (286 Kph)

I was at his place a few weeks back dropping off some weber bits. Im constantly facinated by the look of the engine... theres just something about a motor with a blower thats almost the same size as the block....
