yeah, I think like me it's easier (we think) to ask a question than to hunt for an answer. The "use search" may be seen as a bit rude, but really, it often provides much better answers that somebody may not have seen otherwise.

BansheeBuzz,
We understand that there are always new members arriving on these forums and with each new member there is every chance they will want to know something that has been discussed before. Alomst all the member here are only to happy to offer assistance to a newbie but there are cases when it really is in your best interests to do a search first !
There are topics that have been and gone a number of times in the history of the forums and those people that have helped time and time again do get sick of writing the same old reply. Generally it takes longer for them to type it than it would for you to use the search engine !
If you are genuine about wanting some help (And not just to lazy to do something yourself) then take the suggestion as it is intended. USE the search option and THEN post to your hearts content in relation to it. It is not uncommon for a year or more old thread to pop up on the top of the list because a new member wants clarrification of more information and this is something the people involved originally would generally be only to happy to assist with.
It really isn't a case of piss of I dont wanna say it anymore generally its because the topic has been coved in depth by a number of people. And the best start is for you to see what was already discussed. If you try the search and THEN ask for help people will be alot quicker to respond.
Please don't take this the wrong way we really are trying to help just some of us do it more polily than others !

mr bansheebuzz, you even say youve seen the 'do a search' reply come up time and time again, but, sir, you still do nothing about it... rats learn faster.

ok ill probably get flamed in a major way for this but......
why do some people here at toymds feel that it is their duty to reply to threads which may not even interest them and for what its worth some people online here choose to rehash old topics purly for their interest in all things automotive, sometimes people aren't looking for a straight answer but want to know what others opinions are, with as many registered users that this site has (and usually the same people who reply all the time) some times its refreshing to get a different opinion even if sometimes it's very misguided, aren't these the things that occasionally give us all a laugh?

i dont think anoyne really replies to threads which dont interest them... not even if its only to post "do a search"
its the threads that do interst 'us', that we know a lot about, that dont contain a whole lot of 'opinion' just a bunch of numbers or facts, that 'we' get bored with answering over and over again.
eg: what w-xx gearbox came in my celica? etc etc
im all for discussion on opionionated topics, as i like the laugh
but seriously, if youre after info on specs, facts, or conversion basics - why not do a search first?! people are just too lazy, and far too happy to take adavangtage of peoples time

yeah, i know, its not hard, but it gets tiresome and repetitive, especially when the info is right in front of you....
fact remains you couldve found everything you wanted by yourself, and teaching people to find stuff for themselves is a skill they can use over and over. i wasnt trying to be rude with my post... just telling you to go look...
how does it go:

guys, remember the standard forum rules still apply here - no personal attacks.
Either way, i too am sick of the number of times i have heard
- whats a good motor for my RA23?
- what brakes for my RA2*?
- can i fit a 4a-gze into my sprinter?
And frankly im also getting sick of the number of times i have posted links as you have suggested bansheebuzz. I don't point the finger at anyone in particular, just the laziness of the majority of the internet community. There is a plethora of information out there BEGGING to be found and read.... if only people knew what a search engine was.....
Heck, for my latest question (re: 21R-C ignitor and 22R-E dizzy) i went to my local LIBRARY and borrowed a book cos i couldnt find anything on the internet. And then when i was still confused, i posted in Tech section!
Now that's not lazy.

It takes a lot less time to write a bullshit reply than it does to write technical advice.
The way I see it is this, the person is too lazy to do their own research, so they post up a question so that other people can spend that time for them.
The search feature is there and is the gateway to a HUGE resource of information. If people are too lazy to use it, then why would the knowledgable people waste their time writing the same thing over and over again.

Hey guys,
I do agree with Bansheebuzz. If you don't want to give information to people who ask for it and are sick of see post for help on the same topic Don't answer.
just throwing out the "do a search" reply only shows that your reply was not intended to help. I may have not spammed the post as much as some but what information i have learned i am quite happy to pass on time after time as I see no reason to be rude. It would take the same time to point them in the right direction as it would to tell them to go search. If I cannot help I simply don't reply.
As most would know I have just done the 18r-c to 18rgeu conversion. It may be easy for most of you guys but for a first timer it wasn't. There are a lot of tech articles and sites about the 1G swaps and so on but for what seems to be seen as an easy conversion feels like it is being left behind as a forgoten issue. I did the searches time after time and for most of the questions I was asking it just didn't help.
From what I have seen here on this site since I first stumbled across it is that most people are willing to help out. As is the reason for this sites existence. If you are sick of seeing these repeated posts and questions then can the moderators add a big sign at the top of the tech section asking all people, old and new to do a search before posting any and all questions. making it clear and obvious might stop a few but a "search" will not always help for the finer details that may be needed.
Sorry about the long post but this too has irritated me. My final comment I'd like to add most of you should have heard. As your mother always told you. "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" leave your "do a search" replies to yourself. unless all you are aiming with your reply is to boost your post numbers. Not meaning to insult anyone, just my 2c.

Dude, you may have written a long post, and we can see where you're coming from. But if you're not going to read what everyone else has written first, then don't comment.
You say you did an 18R-C to 18RGEU swap, and that when you had questions you did a search. What I'm getting from what you wrote is that you didn't find the exact answers as you were looking for. One of the guys previously said its not uncommon for an old post to be dug up, if you're asking for some more clarification than is out there, then say it. But asking a general statement like "How do I put a 1G into a blah?" is only going to annoy the people who have time and time again given up their effort to answer questions like this.
If someones got a question, which hasn't already been answered, then thats cool. What the hell is the point of people spending time to answer a question that has already been covered? If you need more clarification, by all means, ask for it, but whats the point of wasting peoples time because you're too lazy (not that you were as you did search Blaze). By all means, dig up an old post if it doesn't quite cover it, but don't waste forum space by making things be told again and again...
End rant...

before I replied here I did read the other posts. only 4 or 5 where on the topic, the other lot where full of sh*t that had nothing to do with this, or where just Juvenal or just stupid insults. I do understand that it maybe frustrating to see the same questions time after time. but as I come across these "repeats" I either leave it and don't comment or if I can, add some information. Who knows I might find out something from that persons problems that I was not aware of myself. Or I just put a link to another post on the same subject that has an answer to their question.
I do not object to people suggesting that the search function be used but if the only thing in the reply is "do a search" it is hard for that not to come across as a bit rude and blunt. Not that I am saying that is was not warranted.
When I've Searched for something all over the net, not just here for hours with out luck, and I do put up a post. Most people help, but when someone replies "do a search" and nothing else. Well you can see how irritating and just plain rude that is.
As as for your comment about reading other replies before this and the stuff about don't comment. It's like I said before. If you do not have any information or help for a repeat poster.... ...just Don't comment ...
and as for digging up old threads. you get shat on for doing that too.

The only old posts I see people getting shat on for digging up aren't the tech ones, its where someone asks after a year a question about something that was for sale or something!
If you have something to ask about a common topic, say that you've had a search, always works for me.

I dont mind the "do a search" answer.. it means that someone has answered it before... at least it's better than not replying at all, and having the questioner wonder if nobody knows or something.
What *I* really hate is when people post stuff for sale, and don't post pics, or no instructions on how to get pics, and you get 10,000,001 replies saying "send pics to so and so"... if you don't have pics to put, then say "no pics".. if you do, then why not just post them and save us all the pain of reading through 100 posts saying "send me pics"...
