It will be just like it was prior to the big end going. Nothing exciting, but not too shabby either for an old cruiser.

5m-e is a bit of a grandpa engine... it goes ok, especially once you kick the revs up a bit, but it's not gonna set the world (or tires) alight.

My 5ME was a monster. It was pretty much stock too. Well the block and crank were stock at least-err hang on-the block was oringed and the crank race prepped-forget that-it was a 5M in name only.....
Prepare to be underwhelmed.
I'm sure it's dead comfy though.

My parents had a 5ME Cressida and at one stage payed $3600 for a new head...that turned out to be dodgy anyway. The car was at the mechanics (Toyota dealer) for over a month. They couldn't find a head anywhere.
This was a while ago now and I didn't know much about cars then but I wish I knew about engine transplants then. A 7MG or 7MGTE or 1JZGTE would have been a much more sensible option for similar money.
Tell them to get a good reco non turbo 7M motor put in. Lots more power...lots more refined (Even though the 5ME in my books is a lot better than their new Commodore engine) and more modern.
My thoughts anyway

Well when we aquired the car it was making some bad noises but we took that down to being low oil pressure. The previous owner was a old man who eventually left the world so we couldnt find out any more history on the car itself.
I never drove it when it was fully ok. You would only get to about 3k rpm and it would make a hell of a noise :S so i didnt want to push it too hard though i did some good burnouts
So i know they only have 116hp @ 6k rpm or so but are they a torquey engine make most of there grunt down low or do the realy on revs to make it happen ? take into fact i never took it over 3k rpm

do the math 98kw 1250kg auto. its not going to be anything to get too excited about. 1/4 = 18 sec. maybe good enough for driving pop to bowls but not much more.
